Villavicencio
Villavicencio () is a city and municipality in Colombia. Capital of Meta Department, it was founded on April 6, 1840. Cartagena, Colombia
Cartagena ( , also ), known since the colonial era as Cartagena de Indias (), is a city and one of the major ports on the northern coast of Colombia in the Caribbean Coast Region, bordering the Caribbean sea. Alonso Zapata
Alonso Zapata Ramirez (born August 22, 1958) is a Colombian chess grandmaster. He is an eight-time Colombian Chess Champion. Chess career Zapata has won the Colombian Chess Championship in 1980, 1981, 1995 (joint), 1996, 2000, 2002, 2004, and 2008. Zapata played twelve times for Colombia in the Chess Olympiads (1978–1992, 1996–1998, 2002 and 2012). He finished second, behind Artur Yusupov, in the 16th World Junior Chess Championship at Innsbruck 1977, tied for third and fourth at Havana 1983, and twice shared first at Cienfuegos in 1980 and Matanzas in 1994 (Capablanca Memorial). Zapata was awarded the International Master (IM) title in 1980 and the GM title in 1984. In 1988, Zapata beat future world champion Viswanathan Anand in only six moves. Envigado
Envigado () is a town southeast of Medellín, Colombia in the department of Antioquia. It is located in the Metropolitan Area of the Aburrá Valley. It borders El Poblado, Medellín to the north, Sabaneta to the south, El Retiro and Caldas to the east, and Itagüí to the west. Gildardo García (9 March 1954 – 15 January 2021) was a Colombian chess grandmaster. Biography García became Colombia's second Grandmaster in 1992. His highest rating was 2540 (in July 1994) and he was ranked 14th in Colombia at the time of his death. He won the Colombian national championship 10 times, in 1977, 1978, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1990, 1991, 1995, 2003, and 2006. In 1974, he won the inaugural Pan American Junior Chess Championship. In 2006, he played in the chess olympiads for Colombia. Óscar Humberto Castro Rojas (9 April 1953 – 13 April 2015) was a Colombian chess International Master (IM) (1975), six times Colombian Chess Championships winner (1972–1974, 1992, 1994, 1999). Biography From the early 1970s to the mid-1990s Óscar Castro was one of the leading Colombian chess players. He won the Colombian Chess Championships 6 times: 1972–1974, 1992, 1994, 1999.
