Collins River
The Collins River is a U.S. Geological Survey. National Hydrography Dataset high-resolution flowline dataThe National Map, accessed June 8, 2011 stream in the east-central portion of Middle Tennessee in the United States. It is a tributary of the Caney Fork, and is part of the Cumberland, Ohio and Mississippi watersheds. The river drains the scenic Savage Gulf area, located just below the river's source, and empties into Great Falls Lake at Rock Island State Park. The Collins River passes through Grundy and Warren counties. McMinnville, Altamont, Gruetli-Laager and Beersheba Springs are among the communities located within its watershed. Rock Island, Tennessee
Rock Island is an unincorporated community in the northeasternmost portion of Warren County, Tennessee, United States. The town is named after an island on the Caney Fork River just below the confluence of the Rocky River. Rock Island is home to the Great Falls Dam and Rock Island State Park. Many different houses, restaurants, and marinas can be found here. Rock Island is a popular destination during the summer season. It is known for scenic waterfalls and bluffs. Boats can often be seen on the river riding by. The state park offers many different hiking trails as well as a sand bar (almost a beach front). Cumberland Plateau
The Cumberland Plateau is the southern part of the Appalachian Plateau in the Appalachian Mountains of the United States. It includes much of eastern Kentucky and Tennessee, and portions of northern Alabama and northwest Georgia. The terms " Allegheny Plateau" and the "Cumberland Plateau" both refer to the dissected plateau lands lying west of the main Appalachian Mountains. Sequatchie County is a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 15,826. Its county seat is Dunlap. Sequatchie County is part of the Chattanooga, TN– GA Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Sequatchie County was created in 1857 from two districts of Marion County and one district of Bledsoe County. It was named for the Sequatchie Valley, which in turn had been named for a Cherokee chief. The word ''sequachee'' from in Cherokee means 'opossum' or 'he grins.' State Route 287 (SR 287) is a north-south state highway located entirely in Warren County in Middle Tennessee. It connects Viola with Rock Island via Morrison, Centertown, Midway, and Rock Island State Park. SR 287’s routing is somewhat unique in that it forms a nearly C-shaped arch around the southern, western, and northern sides of McMinnville. Meander
A meander is one of a series of regular sinuous curves in the channel of a river or other watercourse. It is produced as a watercourse erodes the sediments of an outer, concave bank ( cut bank) and deposits sediments on an inner, convex bank which is typically a point bar. The result of this coupled erosion and sedimentation is the formation of a sinuous course as the channel migrates back and forth across the axis of a floodplain. The zone within which a meandering stream periodically shifts its channel is known as a meander belt. It typically ranges from 15 to 18 times the width of the channel. Route description SR 288 begins in Warren County at an intersection with US 70S/ SR 1 just east of McMinnville. State Route 127 (SR 127) is a 43.52 mile long north-south state highway in Middle Tennessee. It connects Decherd with McMinnville via Hillsboro and Viola. Route description SR 127 begins in Franklin County in Decherd at an intersection with US 41A/ SR 16 at the northern edge of town. It goes northeast through farmland to have an intersection with SR 279 before crossing the Woods Reservoir/ Elk River and entering Coffee County shortly thereafter. State Route 8 (SR 8) is a north–south state highway in East and Middle Tennessee. It connects the cities of Chattanooga and McMinnville via Signal Mountain and Dunlap.
