Colin Jones (boxer)
Colin Raymond Jones (born 21 March 1959 in Gorseinon, Swansea) is a Welsh former boxer, who became British, Commonwealth and European welterweight champion. Before turning professional he represented Great Britain at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Colin had a trainer by the name of Gareth Bevan, also helped out by his son John Bevan. Boxing career In 1976 Jones was the youngest British boxer to qualify for the Olympic Games until Amir Khan appeared at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Jones won the 1976 and 1977 Amateur Boxing Association British welterweight title, when boxing out of the Penyrheol ABC. He was one of the hardest punching welterweights of his generation and his ability to knock fighters out with a single shot (with either hand) allowed him the luxury of being a notoriously slow starter. Hans Henrik Palm
Hans Henrik Palm (born 19 July 1956 in Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark) is a retired Danish boxer, who became European welterweight champion in 1982. Before turning professional he represented Denmark at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Quebec, Canada where he dropped a decision to world champion Vassily Solomin of the USSR. Amateur career As an amateur Hans Henrik Palm competed in the senior ranks at the age of 17 where he won the Danish national bantamweight title in 1974. In the following years he captured the Danish featherweight title (1975) and lightweight title (1976). He also became Nordic champion in 1976. Palm competed at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. In the first round of the tournament he was matched against the world lightweight champion Vassily Solomin of the USSR. Lloyd Honeyghan
Lloyd Honeyghan (born 22 April 1960) is a British former professional boxer who competed from 1980 to 1995. He reigned as the undisputed welterweight champion from 1986 to 1987, and held the WBC, '' The Ring'' magazine welterweight titles twice between 1986 and 1989. At regional level he held the British, European and Commonwealth welterweight titles between 1983 and 1985, and the Commonwealth super-welterweight title from 1993 to 1994. David Pearce (boxer)
David "Bomber" Pearce (8 May 1959 – 20 May 2000) was a Welsh heavyweight boxing champion. Also known as The Welsh Rocky, Pearce held both the Welsh and the British Heavyweight titles and held the number one WBC Cruiserweight ranking from September 1983 to September 1985. In all he won 19 (15 KO) of his 24 bouts, losing three, with one drawn. He won two of his unlicensed bouts, losing one. Biographical details Pearce was born in Newport, Monmouthshire on 8 May 1959. He was one of nine children: seven brothers, six of whom boxed professionally and one who was a professional dancer, and two sisters. His mother was a relative of Bob Fitzsimmons. BBC Wales Sports Personality Of The Year
The BBC Cymru Wales Sports Personality of the Year is a televised sporting competition, broadcast on BBC Two every year; and the most prestigious annual sport award in Wales.
