Colin Fraser (Canadian Politician)
Colin Fraser (born July 27, 1978) is a Canadian politician, who was elected to represent the riding of West Nova in the House of Commons of Canada in the 2015 Canadian federal election. Despite winning by the largest margin in the riding's history, he did not seek re-election in the 2019 Canadian federal election. Early life and education Fraser was born in Yarmouth to Hugh Jon and Sharon Fraser. His father died of leukemia before Colin was 6. In 1996, he graduated from Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School and he then graduated from Carleton University in 2000 majoring in Political Science. He studied law in London, England and then graduated from Dalhousie Law School in 2007 with a Bachelor of Laws. Legal career He was a lawyer and partner at a Yarmouth firm until his election. West Nova
West Nova (french: Nova-Ouest) is a federal electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1968. South Western Nova and South West Nova were ridings that covered roughly the same geographic area and were represented in the House of Commons from 1968 to 1979 and 1979 to 1997, respectively. The district is rural with a few small towns and communities located along the coast. The riding has been called a microcosm of rural Canada because it includes fishing, farming, tourism, small business and an English-French mix. In 2002, the riding was noted as having the highest Baptist proportion in Canada at 28%. Remembrance Day (also known as Poppy Day owing to the tradition of wearing a remembrance poppy) is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth member states since the end of the First World War to honour armed forces members who have died in the line of duty. Following a tradition inaugurated by King George V in 1919, the day is also marked by war remembrances in many non-Commonwealth countries. In most countries, Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November to recall the end of First World War hostilities. Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School
Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School (YCMHS) is a secondary school located in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada. It is part of the Tri-County Regional School Board and is the only high school in the town of Yarmouth. The high school serves the town of Yarmouth as well as the rest of Yarmouth County. History At a public meeting held in the evening of July 26, 1898, the building was purchased for $8000 by the School Commission to be used as the Yarmouth County Academy. It is a memorial school dedicated to the war dead of Yarmouth Town and County during the First and Second World Wars. On February 20, 1949, the academy was totally destroyed by fire. As the news spread, many students, new and old, gathered in horror to watch it burn to the ground.
