Colima Cartel
The Colima Cartel ( es, Cártel de Colima) was a Mexican drug trafficking and methamphetamine producing cartel operating in Guadalajara, Jalisco. It was founded and led by José de Jesús Amezcua Contreras and supported by his brothers Adán and Luis. The Colima Cartel is believed to have obtained large quantities of the precursor ephedrine through contacts in Thailand and India, and then distributed it to different methamphetamine labs in Mexico and the United States. The Colima cartel has become a branch of the Sinaloa Cartel as are the Milenio Cartel, Guadalajara Cartel, and Sonora Cartels. Colima
Colima (), officially the Free and Sovereign State of Colima ( es, Estado Libre y Soberano de Colima), is one of the 31 states that make up the Political divisions of Mexico, 32 Federal Entities of Mexico. It shares its name with its capital and main city, Colima City, Colima. Colima is a small state located in Western Mexico on the central Pacific coast, and includes the four oceanic Revillagigedo Islands. Adán Amezcua Contreras
Adán Amezcua Contreras (born ), along with his brothers Jesús and Luis, was a leader of the Colima Cartel, a Mexican methamphetamine and precursor drug smuggling organization. Arrest On November 10, 1997, Adán Amezcua was arrested in his hometown of Colima, Col., Mexico, on weapons charges. Two years later in March 1999, Adán Amezcua was arrested on money laundering charges; the charges were however dropped 2 months later and he was released. Kingpin Act sanction On October 2, 2008, the United States Department of the Treasury sanctioned Amezcua Contreras under the Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act (sometimes referred to simply as the "Kingpin Act"), for his involvement in drug trafficking along with nine other international criminals and six entities.
