Coldwater Creek is an American catalog and online retailer of women’s apparel, accessories, shoes and home décor. The company offered a variety of women’s clothing in misses, petite and women’s plus sizes. History From startup to profitability (1984 to 1986) In 1984, Dennis and Ann Pence relocated from Manhattan to the resort town of Sandpoint in northern Idaho to start a direct mail business. They bootstrapped the business with savings of only $40,000. Early catalogs were printed in one color by the local newspaper. In the early days the two founders did everything, putting an extension cord on their telephone so they could take customer orders throughout the tiny condo they worked from. The first four-color catalog, called ''Northcountry'', was published in 1985. Writing and design were handled in house, leveraging Ann's background as a Copy Director for Macy's. Coldwater Creek (also Cold Water Creek) is a 19-mile tributary of the Missouri River in north St. Louis County in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is known to be contaminated with radioactive wastes. Location The creek begins in a small spring-fed lake in Overland, then flows north through the towns of Breckenridge Hills, St. Ann and Bridgeton, before entering a culvert underneath Lambert International Airport. North of the airport, it flows northeast through the cities of Hazelwood, Berkeley, Florissant, Old Jamestown, Black Jack, and Spanish Lake. According to ''St. Louis Magazine'', "It runs past schools, golf courses, and soccer fields." The creek terminates in the Missouri River between the Lewis Bridge and the Columbia Bottom Conservation Area. Coldwater Creek is a stream in Miami County, Kansas and Cass County, Missouri in the United States. It is a tributary of the South Fork of the South Grand River. The stream headwaters arise in eastern Kansas just over one mile west of the Kansas-Missouri border at and it flows east into Missouri and crosses under Missouri Route D just south of Lisle. Its confluence with the South Fork is at at an elevation of 860 feet. Coldwater Creek was so named due to the cold water it carries.
