Coldingham Shore
St Abbs is a small fishing village on the southeastern coast of Scotland, within the Coldingham parish of Scottish Borders. The village was originally known as ''Coldingham Shore'', the name St Abbs being adopted in the 1890s. The new name was derived from St Abb's Head, a rocky promontory located to the north of the village, itself named after the 7th-century saint Æbbe of Coldingham. History St Abbs was originally called Coldingham Shore. Prior to any buildings the fishermen who worked their boats from the beach resided at Fisher's Brae in Coldingham. These fishermen had to carry their fishing gear one and a half miles down a path to where their fishing vessels were tied up. The path is now known as the Creel Path; creel is the local name for a lobster pot. SM U-21 (Germany)
SM ''U-21'' was a U-boat built for the Imperial German Navy shortly before World War I. The third of four Type U-19-class submarines, these were the first U-boats in German service to be equipped with diesel engines. ''U-21'' was built between 1911 and October 1913 at the ''Kaiserliche Werft'' (Imperial Shipyard) in Danzig. She was armed with four torpedo tubes and a single deck gun; a second gun was added during her career. In September 1914, ''U-21'' became the first submarine to sink a ship with a self-propelled torpedo when she destroyed the cruiser off the Firth of Forth. She also sank several transports in the English Channel and the Irish Sea later in the year, all in accordance with the cruiser rules then in effect. William Dickson (chemist)
William Dickson TD MBE FRSE FRSC (23 January 1905 – 21 October 1992) was a Scottish chemist and educator. He was the only British schoolteacher to be elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. He was proud of his fishing heritage. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) is the largest charity that saves lives at sea around the coasts of the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, the Channel Islands, and the Isle of Man, as well as on some inland waterways. St Abbs Lifeboat is an independent marine-rescue facility in St Abbs, Berwickshire, Scotland. Independent lifeboat St Abbs Lifeboat is run as an independent charity (SCIO) registered in Scotland (Charity Number SC046312).
