Cold Spring Harbor State Park
Cold Spring Harbor State Park is a state park located on New York State Route 25A in the Town of Huntington in Suffolk County, New York. The hilly park opened in 2000 and offers scenic views of Cold Spring Harbor on the north shore of Long Island. History Cold Spring Harbor State Park occupies land purchased by New York State in the 1960s; it was originally intended to host part of a bridge to Connecticut proposed by Robert Moses. After the bridge failed to materialize, the land was largely forgotten although it remained under the jurisdiction of the New York State Department of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. The unused parcel was eventually brought to the attention of state officials by a librarian seeking space for a new library in Cold Spring Harbor, and was officially dedicated as a state park in 2000. Bethpage State Parkway
The Bethpage State Parkway (or simply the Bethpage Parkway) is a parkway in Nassau County on Long Island, New York, in the United States. It begins at a trumpet interchange with the Southern State Parkway in the village of North Massapequa and serves Boundary Avenue, NY 24, and Central Avenue before terminating at a traffic circle with Plainview Road and a local park road in Bethpage State Park. The parkway is designated as New York State Route 907E (NY 907E), an unsigned reference route. It is also ceremoniously designated as the Philip B. Healey Memorial Parkway for Assemblyman Philip B. Healey (1921–1996). Bethpage State Park is a New York state park on the border of Nassau County and Suffolk County on Long Island. The park contains tennis courts, picnic and recreational areas and a polo field, but is best known for its five golf courses, including the Bethpage Black Course, which hosted the 2002 and 2009 U.S. Open Golf Championships and the 2019 PGA Championship. History In 1912, Benjamin Franklin Yoakum, a wealthy railroad executive, acquired of land in what is now known as Old Bethpage, NY, a hamlet adjacent to the Village of Farmingdale. Cold Spring Harbor, New York
Cold Spring Harbor is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the Town of Huntington, in Suffolk County, on the North Shore of Long Island in New York. As of the 2010 United States census, the CDP population was 5,070. History Cold Spring Harbor was named after the naturally cold freshwater springs that flow in the area. Its economy mainly tied to milling and port activities, it rose in prominence as a whaling community in the mid-nineteenth century. After the decline of whaling in the 1860s, it became a resort town with several hotels.
