Col Hudson
Col Hudson was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1940s and 1950s. He played for Western Suburbs Magpies, Western Suburbs and St. George Dragons, St George in the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) competition. Playing career Hudson made his first grade debut for Western Suburbs in 1947. The following season, Hudson was part of the Western Suburbs side which won the minor premiership and reached the 1948 NSWRL grand final against Balmain. Hudson played on the wing in the match as Balmain went into halftime holding a 5-3 lead. In the second half, a long range try scored by Wests player Kevin Hansen (rugby league), Kevin Hansen gave Western Suburbs a 8-5 lead which they held onto until the end of the match winning their third premiership in front of 29,122 fans at the Sydney Sports Ground. Western Suburbs Magpies
The Western Suburbs Magpies (legal name: Western Suburbs District Rugby League Football Club Ltd) are an Australian rugby league football club based in the western suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales. Formed in 1908, Wests, as they are commonly referred to, were one of the nine foundation clubs of the first New South Wales Rugby League competition in Australia. The club, as a sole entity, departed the top-flight competition in 1999 after forming a 50–50 joint venture with Balmain Tigers to form the Wests Tigers. The club currently fields sides in the NSW State Cup (Canterbury Cup), Ron Massey Cup (Opens), S.G. Ball Cup (Under 18's) and Harold Matthews Cup (Under 16's) competitions. Campbelltown Stadium, which has a capacity of 18,000, is their home stadium. History The club was one of the foundation members of the Sydney rugby football league competition in 1908.
