Coffin Bay National Park
Coffin Bay National Park is a protected area in on the Eyre Peninsula of South Australia, Australia, which is located about 301 km west of Adelaide, Australia, Adelaide and about 46 km west of Port Lincoln, South Australia, Port Lincoln. The town of Coffin Bay, South Australia, Coffin Bay is near the entrance to the national park. The national park occupies the Coffin Bay Peninsula - a long peninsula with a sheltered bay to its north, coastal dunes, swamps and a coastline which overlooks islands, reefs, limestone cliffs and white surf beaches. To the east of Point Avoid are Almonta and Gunyah Beaches, used for surfing. Reefs extend out to sea from Point Avoid to Golden Island with Price Island further out. Coffin Bay, originally Coffin's Bay, is a town at the southern extremity of the Eyre Peninsula, a wheat growing area of South Australia. At the 2016 Australian census, 2016 census, Coffin Bay had a population of 611. Whidbey Isles Conservation Park
The Whidbey Isles Conservation Park is a protected area in the Australian state of South Australia which consists of seven islands located about west-southwest of Coffin Bay on the lower Eyre Peninsula. The conservation park consists of all of the islands in Whidbey Isles, i.e. the Four Hummocks group, Perforated Island, Price Island and Golden Island, with the exception of the most southerly island in the Four Hummocks which is the subject of a lighthouse reserve under the control of the Australian government. The land within the conservation park first acquired protected area status as a Fauna Conservation Reserve declared under the ''Crown Lands Act 1929'' on 16 March 1967. Mount Dutton Bay Conservation Park is a protected area in the Australian state of South Australia located on the west coast of Eyre Peninsula on islands located on waters in the sector between the north west to the east of the town of Coffin Bay. The conservation park consists of a number of islands located in the following bays subsidiary to Coffin Bay - Port Douglas, Mount Dutton Bay and Kellidie Bay. Kellidie Bay Conservation Park (formerly the Kellidie Bay National Park) is a protected area in the Australian state of South Australia, located on the west coast of Eyre Peninsula immediately east of the town centre in Coffin Bay and immediately adjoining the south coast of Kellidie Bay in the localities of Coffin Bay, Kellidie Bay and Wangary. Avoid Bay Islands Conservation Park
The Avoid Bay Islands Conservation Park is a protected area in the Australian state of South Australia occupying three islands located west-southwest of Coffin Bay on the Eyre Peninsula. The group, which includes Black Rocks and Sudden Jerk Island (also known as Avoid Island), supports breeding populations of seabirds and marine mammals. Colonies of the endangered Australian sea lion, Australian Sea-lion (''Neophoca cinerea'') and protected New Zealand Fur Seal, New Zealand Fur-seal (''Arctocephalus forsteri'') occur on some of these islands. Blue-breasted Fairy-wren
The blue-breasted fairywren (''Malurus pulcherrimus''), or blue-breasted wren, is a species of passerine bird in the Australasian wren family, Maluridae. It is non-migratory and endemic to southern Western Australia and the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. Exhibiting a high degree of sexual dimorphism, the male adopts a brilliantly coloured breeding plumage, with a bright blue crown, ear coverts and upper back, red shoulders, contrasting with a dark blue throat, grey-brown tail and wings and pale underparts. Non-breeding males, females and juveniles have predominantly grey-brown plumage. No separate subspecies are recognised. Rock Parrot
The rock parrot (''Neophema petrophila'') is a species of grass parrot native to Australia. Described by John Gould in 1841, it is a small parrot long and weighing with predominantly olive-brown upperparts and more yellowish underparts. Its head is olive with light blue forecheeks and lores, and a dark blue frontal band line across the crown with lighter blue above and below. The sexes are similar in appearance, although the female tends to have a duller frontal band and less blue on the face. Two subspecies are recognised. Rocky islands and coastal dune areas are the preferred habitats for this species, which is found from Lake Alexandrina in southeastern South Australia westwards across coastal South and Western Australia to Shark Bay. Hooded Plover
The hooded dotterel or hooded plover (''Thinornis cucullatus'') is a species of bird in the family Charadriidae. It is endemic to southern Australia, where it inhabits ocean beaches and subcoastal lagoons. There are two recognised subspecies which form isolated eastern and western populations. The eastern subspecies is of greater conservation concern, with listings varying from Vulnerable in South Australia and Victoria to Critically Endangered in New South Wales. Taxonomy The hooded dotterel was placed in genus ''Charadrius'' but in the early 2000s it was reclassified into the genus ''Thinornis'', along with shore plover (''Thinornis novaeseelandiae'').
