Codey Maus
Codey Maus (born November 16, 1985 in Owen Sound, Ontario) is a Canadian curler from Tara, Ontario. Maus is a three-time provincial junior champion and one-time provincial mixed champion. Career Juniors Maus won his first provincial junior title in 2002, playing third for the Jeff Armstrong rink. The team represented Ontario at the 2002 Canadian Junior Curling Championships. The team finished the event with a 5-7 record, in 10th place. Maus won another provincial junior title in 2005, playing third for Mark Bice. The team would go on to win a silver medal at the 2005 Canadian Junior Curling Championships. Maus won his third provincial junior title in 2006. Maus skipped a rink consisting of Jeff Grant, Al Stahl and Bill Francis to the provincial championship, and represented Ontario at the 2006 Canadian Junior Curling Championships. Owen Sound
Owen Sound ( 2021 Census population 21,612) is a city in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. The county seat of Grey County, it is located at the mouths of the Pottawatomi and Sydenham Rivers on an inlet of Georgian Bay. The primary tourist attractions are the many waterfalls within a short drive of the town. History The area around the upper Great Lakes has been home to the Ojibwe people since prehistory. In 1815, William Fitzwilliam Owen surveyed the area and named the inlet after his older brother Admiral Edward Owen. The name of the area in Ojibwe language is ''Gchi-wiigwedong''. A settlement called "Sydenham" was established in 1840 or 1841 by Charles Rankin in an area that had been inhabited by First Nations people. John Telfer settled here at that time and others followed. World Curling Tour
The World Curling Tour (WCT) is a group of curling bonspiels featuring the best male, female, and mixed doubles curlers in the world. History The World Curling Tour was founded by former World Champion Ed Lukowich, with later assistance from John Kawaja. The World Curling Tour commenced in 1992, with men's events only at first. It replaced the "Canadian Curling Tour" held the previous season. The first season consisted of 48 events (with only one outside Canada), and was sponsored by Seagram's distillery. Teams earned points in every event with the top 30 qualifying for the season ending " V.O. Cup", today known as the Players' Championship. Its first president and CEO was Lukowich. 2013 The Dominion Tankard
The 2013 Dominion Tankard, southern Ontario's men's provincial curling championship, was held from February 4 to 10 at the Barrie Molson Centre in Barrie, Ontario. The winning team of Glenn Howard will represent Ontario at the 2013 Tim Hortons Brier in Edmonton, Alberta. Howard won his 15th provincial championship, and continued his record 8th straight title by defeating Joe Frans in the final. 2012 Canadian Open Of Curling
The 2012 Canadian Open of Curling was held from December 12 to 16 at Prospera Place in Kelowna, British Columbia as part of the 2012–13 World Curling Tour. The event was the second men's Grand Slam event of the season. The event was held in a round robin format, and the purse for the event was CAD$100,000. In the final, Glenn Howard won his second Canadian Open title and his eleventh Grand Slam title with a win over Brad Jacobs, clinching the victory with a score of 3–1 after a steal in the final end. 2012 ROGERS Masters Of Curling
The 2012 Masters Grand Slam of Curling was held from November 14 to 18 at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre, the Brantford Golf & Curling Club, the Paris Curling Club, and the Brant Curling Club in Brantford and Paris, Ontario as part of the 2012–13 World Curling Tour. The majority of the women's Tier I round robin games and some of the men's Tier I round robin games was held at the Brantford Golf & Curling Club, while the remainder of the Tier I games and the playoffs round games were held at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre. Jake Higgs
Jake Higgs (born December 20, 1975 in Regina, Saskatchewan, Regina, Saskatchewan) is a Canadians, Canadian curling, curler from Strathroy-Caradoc, Strathroy, Ontario. He coached the mixed doubles rink of Matt Hamilton (curler), Matt Hamilton and Becca Hamilton at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Curling career Higgs played second for Wayne Tuck, Jr.'s mixed team, that won a provincial championship in 2008–09, giving them the right to represent Ontario at the 2009 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. The team lost in the final to Sean Grassie's Manitoba rink. Higgs was also a member of the team that won the 2002 provincial mixed championship. Higgs began skipping a men's team in 2008, which finished fourth place at the 2009 TSC Stores Tankard, 2009 provincial championship. The 2011 BDO Canadian Open of Curling was held from January 26–30 at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa, Ontario. This event was the third men's Grand Slam event in the 2010-11 curling season. The purse for this event was CAD$100,000. 18 men's teams will be playing for eight quarterfinal spots in a round-robin competition. The competition was marked by an interesting turn of events when the Thomas Ulsrud rink failed to win a game against Peter Corner. Team Ulsrud's loss created an eight-way tie in 2–3 win–loss records, prompting a draw shot challenge and the scheduling of two tiebreakers. Team Ulsrud, as well as Team Corner, Team Middaugh, and Team Higgs, failed to advance in the draw shot challenge, leaving Team Epping, Team Fowler, Team Bice and Team Walchuk to participate in the tiebreakers. Grand Slam Of Curling
The Grand Slam of Curling (branded as the Pinty's Grand Slam of Curling for sponsorship reasons) is a series of curling bonspiels that are a part of the annual World Curling Tour. Grand Slam events offer a purse of at least CAD$100,000, and feature the best teams from across Canada and around the World. The Grand Slam was instituted during the 2001–02 season for men and 2006–07 for women (with the 2006 Players' Championship also considered a Slam), but some of the Grand Slam events have longer histories as bonspiels. The 2010 Ontario Men's Curling Championship was held February 1-7th, 2010 at the Strathcona Paper Centre in Napanee. Eleven teams participated. It marked the first year that the defending champion (Glenn Howard's rink) would get an automatic berth. Winner Glenn Howard went on to represent Ontario at the 2010 Tim Hortons Brier in Halifax, Nova Scotia, losing in the final to Kevin Koe's Alberta rink. Ontario Tankard
The Ontario Tankard is the Southern Ontario provincial championship for men's curling. The winner represents Team Ontario at the Tim Hortons Brier. The tournament is overseen by CurlON (formerly the Ontario Curling Association). Northern Ontario has its own provincial championship, known as the Northern Ontario Men's Provincial Curling Championship. This championship is not to be confused with the Silver Tankard, historically also known as the Ontario Tankard (and until 1937 a Brier qualifier).
