Code poetry is literature that intermixes notions of classical poetry and computer code. Digital poetry is a form of electronic literature, displaying a wide range of approaches to poetry, with a prominent and crucial use of computers. Digital poetry can be available in form of CD-ROM, DVD, as installations in art galleries, in certain cases also recorded as digital video or films, as digital holograms, on the World Wide Web or Internet, and as mobile phone apps. Black Perl
"Black Perl" is a code poem written using the Perl programming language. It was posted anonymously to Usenet on April 1, 1990, and is popular among Perl programmers as a piece of Perl poetry. Written in Perl 3, the poem is able to be executed as a program. Attribution When posted to the comp.lang.perl newsgroup the poem was attributed to "a person who wishes to remain anonymous". Sharon Rauenzahn ( née Hopkins), another Perl poet, has been suspected to be the author but has since denied the claim. Result of program execution When executed, Black Perl exits on line one, upon reaching the functioexit The remaining lines are parsed by the Perl interpreter but never actually executed. PerlMonks
''PerlMonks'' is a community website covering all aspects of Perl programming and other related topics such as web applications and system administration. It is often referred to by users as 'The Monastery'. In software development, obfuscation is the act of creating source or machine code that is difficult for humans or computers to understand. Like obfuscation in natural language, it may use needlessly roundabout expressions to compose statements. Programmers may deliberately obfuscate code to conceal its purpose (security through obscurity) or its logic or implicit values embedded in it, primarily, in order to prevent tampering, deter reverse engineering, or even to create a puzzle or recreational challenge for someone reading the source code. School For Poetic Computation
The School for Poetic Computation (SFPC) is a hybrid of a school, residency and research group that was founded in 2013 in New York. A small group of students and faculty work closely to explore the intersections of code, art, hardware and theory—focusing especially on artistic intervention, including code poetry. Rather than formal classes, the students at the school focus on creative projects. The school's motto is "more poems, less demos." The school was co-founded by Zachary Lieberman, Taeyoon Choi, Amit Pitaru, and Jen Lowe.
