The Cocoa Mets were a minor league baseball team based in Cocoa, Florida in 1964. The Cocoa Mets played exclusively as members of the four–team Rookie level Cocoa Rookie League, placing 2nd in the league standings, with all league games played at the Cocoa Expo Sports Center. The Cocoa Mets were a minor league affiliate of the New York Mets in 1964. History The Cocoa Rookie League began play in the 1964 season, with all games based in Cocoa, Florida. The Cocoa "Mets" became members of the four–team Rookie level Cocoa Rookie League. The Cocoa Colts, Cocoa Tigers and Melbourne Twins joined the Mets in the four–team league, beginning play on July 1, 1964. On July 3, 1964, Cocoa Met pitcher Tug McGraw threw a 7–inning no-hitter in his professional debut. McGraw defeated the Cocoa Colts 4–0 in the victory. Cocoa Astros
The Cocoa Astros were a professional minor league baseball team in the Florida State League (FSL), as a Class A affiliate with the Houston Astros from 1965–72 and 1977. The team played at the Astros' spring training facility. The Cocoa FSL team was first known as the Cocoa Indians (1951–58) when formed in 1951. The Indians won the Florida State League title in 1956 with a 90-50 record. The ballparks The Cocoa Astros played at the Cocoa Expo Sports Center located at 500 Friday Road. The New York Mets Hall of Fame was created in order to recognize the careers of former New York Mets players, managers, broadcasters and executives. There are presently 30 members. Kevin Michael Collins (August 4, 1946 – February 20, 2016), was a Major League Baseball infielder with the New York Mets, Montreal Expos and Detroit Tigers. He played primarily as a third baseman and sometimes as a second baseman. He also played a few games at other positions, including shortstop, first baseman and outfielder. Collins was signed by the Mets as an amateur free agent on January 1, 1964 after a high school career at Springfield Tech High School. He began his professional career in 1964 with the Florida Mets, the Mets Rookie League minor league baseball team. He played in 44 games that season, getting 118 at bats and posting a batting average of .220. In 1965, Collins made his major league debut with the Mets on September 1. The Florida State League (FSL) is a Minor League Baseball league based in the state of Florida. Having been classified at various levels throughout its existence, it operated at Class A-Advanced from 1990 until its demotion to Single-A following Major League Baseball's 2021 reorganization of the minor leagues. The league temporarily operated for the 2021 season as the Low-A Southeast before reassuming its original moniker in 2022.
