Cock O' The North (film)
''Cock o' the North'' is a 1935 British comedy drama film directed by Oswald Mitchell and Challis Sanderson and starring George Carney, Marie Lohr and Eve Lister. It was shot at the Cricklewood Studios in London.Wright p.129 It was produced for release by Butcher's Film Service. Like many of Butcher's films during the decade, it shares its name with a traditional piece of music. In this case the title refers to the railway engine Cock o' the North. Synopsis George Barton, an engine driver is injured in a motor accident and is forced to retire. He is able to find consolation in his wife Mary and son Danny. Meanwhile, his colleagues put on a variety show as a benefit concert for him. Variety show, also known as variety arts or variety entertainment, is entertainment made up of a variety of acts including musical theatre, musical performances, sketch comedy, magic (illusion), magic, acrobatics, juggling, and ventriloquism. Leslie Arthur Julien Hutchinson, known as "Hutch" (7 March 1900 – 18 August 1969), was a Grenada-born singer and musician who was one of the biggest cabaret, cabaret stars in the world during the 1920s and 1930s. Early life Born in Gouyave, Grenada, in 1900, when it was part of the British Windward Islands, to George Hutchinson and Marianne (''née'' Turnbull), Hutch took piano lessons as a child. In 1916, he moved to New York City while still in his teens. A pearl is a hard, glistening object produced within the soft tissue (specifically the mantle) of a living shelled mollusk or another animal, such as fossil conulariids. Just like the shell of a mollusk, a pearl is composed of calcium carbonate (mainly aragonite or a mixture of aragonite and calcite) in minute crystalline form, which has deposited in concentric layers. Major General Stanley Woodburn Kirby, (13 February 1895 − 19 July 1968) was a British Army officer who served in both World Wars. Personal Stanley Kirby was the son of Sir Woodburn Kirby, born in the Hendon district of London. He was educated at Charterhouse School. Kirby was married twice; first in 1924 to Rosabel Gell who died in 1954 – the couple had one son. His second marriage was in 1955 to Mrs Joan Catherine.
