Lady Beetle
Coccinellidae () is a widespread family of small beetles ranging in size from . They are commonly known as ladybugs in North America and ladybirds in Great Britain. Some entomologists prefer the names ladybird beetles or lady beetles as they are not true bugs. Many of the species have conspicuous aposematic colours and patterns, such as red with black spots, that warn potential predators that they are distasteful. The majority of the more than 6,000 described species are generally considered beneficial insects, because many prey on herbivorous hemipterans such as aphids or scale insects, which are agricultural pests. Many coccinellids lay their eggs directly in aphid and scale insect colonies, ensuring their larvae have an immediate food source. However, some species such as the herbivorous Mexican bean beetle are agricultural pests. Etymology The name ''coccinellids'', created by Pierre André Latreille, is derived from the Latin word ''coccineus'' meaning "scarlet". The ...

Harmonia (beetle)
''Harmonia'' is a genus of lady beetles belonging to the subfamily Coccinellinae. Description The distinction of the individual species within the genus is often very difficult, and in some cases requires examination of the reproductive system. The coloring and drawing in the genus ''Harmonia ''are very variable, not only between species, but also within each species. The basic color of the elytra is usually red to orange with black spots. The patches can be linked together to form black bars. The species can reach a length of 3 to 7 mm. The rear edge of the pronotum is slightly curved. The antennae are a little shorter than the head and are composed of eleven segments. The three last segments are thickened at the tip and form a club. List of species *''Harmonia axyridis'' (Pallas, 1771) – Asian lady beetle, originally from Nepal, China, Taiwan, Japan, introduced to Western Europe and America *'' Harmonia antipodum'' (Mulsant, 1848) – antipodean ladybird, endemic to New ...

Cheilomenes
__NOTOC__ ''Cheilomenes'' is a genus of ladybirds (Coccinellidae). Like other members of their subfamily they are large typical ladybirds. They are always shiny and often have bright spots on the elytra. The common African species ''C. lunata'' is an important predator of the citrus aphid, '' Toxoptera'', and wheat aphid, while ''C. vicina'' has been suggested as a biological control agent for the cowpea aphid. Both the larvae and adults are predatory. Freshly emerged larvae consume unhatched eggs, and eventually have a dappled appearance and 6 tubercles on each abdominal segment. Vulnerable stages in the life of ''C. sexmaculata'', including oviposition, hatching, moulting and pupation have been shown to occur after dark, probably as an adaptation to avoid exposure to natural enemies. Aiolocaria
''Aiolocaria hexaspilota'' is a beetle species from the lady beetle family (Coccinellidae); adults can be as large as 13mm long. The species’ scientific name was first given in an 1831 publication by Frederick William Hope.Joel K. HallanSynopsis of the described Coleoptera of the World, 6 June 2010. Accessed 19 May 2014. Unaware of its previous identification, Victor Motschulsky was later to call the same species as ''Aiolocaria mirabilis'' (in 1860). In most cases of such synonymy, according to the Encyclopedia of Life, “the first name takes priority and is considered to be the valid or accepted name.”Aiolocaria hexaspilota', Encyclopedia of Life. Mulsantina
''Mulsantina'' is a genus of ladybugs (family Coccinellidae), found in North and Central America and in the Caribbean (Haiti). The genus was named by entomologist Julius Weise after Étienne Mulsant, who in 1846 and 1850 published monographs that were very important to the development of modern coccinellid taxonomy. Mulsant had previously named this genus ''Cleis'', but as this name was found to be already in use, Weise renamed it in Mulsant's honor. Species There are about nine species: *''Mulsantina curva'' J. Chapin, 1985 *''Mulsantina cyathigera'' Gorham, 1891 *''Mulsantina hudsonica'' Casey, 1899 *''Mulsantina labyrinthica'' Sicard, 1929 *''Mulsantina luteodorsa'' J. Naemia
''Naemia seriata'', commonly known as the seaside lady beetle, is a large coccinellid beetle native to North America, and the only species in the genus ''Naemia''. It is found in coastal areas such as beaches, salt marshes, and bay islands on the Atlantic and Pacific coast. This beetle is light brown, yellow, orange, or red in color, with large black spots, often connected along the sides. The pronotum usually has one large central black spot, which is occasionally split into two spots. The body of this species is elongately oval in shape, and between 4 and 6.7mm in length. The two subspecies can be distinguished by markings on the head, with the head of ''N. seriata seriata'' being black, while the head of ''N. seriata litigiosa'' has a pale triangular marking. ''Naemia seriata seriata'' is primarily distributed across Eastern North America, while ''N. seriata litigiosa'' is restricted to the American Southwest. The seaside lady beetle may be confused for the spotted pink lady ...
