Cobalt-winged Parakeet
The cobalt-winged parakeet (''Brotogeris cyanoptera'') is a species of bird in the family Psittacidae, the true parrots. It is found in the eastern Andean foothills, the far western Amazonian regions in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia; and Brazil, in the Amazon Basin states of Amazonas, Acre, and Rondonia. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical, moist lowland forests and heavily degraded former forest. Distribution The range of the cobalt-winged parakeet is in the extreme western Amazon Basin in Brazil's states of Amazonas, Acre, and Rondônia, part of the North Region; also from north to south, southernmost Venezuela, eastern Colombia-Ecuador-Peru, and northern and central Bolivia, and in Bolivia within the tributary rivers to the Madeira River flowing northeast to the Amazon River. Count Adelardo Tommaso Salvadori Paleotti (30 September 1835 – 9 October 1923) was an Italian zoologist and ornithologist. Biography Salvadori was born in Porto San Giorgio, son of Count Luigi Salvadori and Ethelyn Welby, who was English. ''Brotogeris'' is a genus of small parrots endemic to Central and South America. Their closest relatives are the monk parakeet and the and the cliff parakeet in the genus '' Myiopsitta''. They eat seeds and fruit. The word ''brotogeris'' means "having the voice of a human". In the language of their native countries, which is mostly Spanish, they are called ''pericos'' – the translation of which is "parakeet". Guaporé River ( pt, Rio Guaporé, es, Río Iténez) is a river in western Brazil and northeastern Bolivia. It is long; of the river forms the border between Brazil and Bolivia.
