Coatesville, Indiana
Coatesville is a town in Clay Township, Hendricks County, Indiana, United States. The population was 523 at the 2010 Census. History Coatesville was founded in the late 1860s. It was incorporated as a town in 1909. A gas station was opened in downtown Coatesville in the early 1900s. By 1958 it was operated by Standard Oil. At one time, Coatesville had three gas stations, but as of 2020 it has none. The location of the town's first gas station has been renovated into a replica of the Standard Oil station as it would have looked in the late 1950s. On March 26, 1948 (Good Friday) a tornado destroyed most of the town, killing 14 residents. Damage and fatalities were widespread across west-central Indiana, and overall, 20 people perished. Coatesville is a city in Chester County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 13,350 at the 2020 census. Coatesville is approximately 39 miles west of Philadelphia. It developed along the Philadelphia and Lancaster Turnpike beginning in the late 18th century. It spans U.S. Route 30, the "Main Line" highway that runs west of Philadelphia. Coatesville developed in the early 20th century with the growth of the Lukens Steel Company and other industry. Its population declined after industrial restructuring, which reduced these jobs. Lukens was bought by the Bethlehem Steel Corporation in 1997. In 2002, Bethlehem was bought by the then Ohio-based International Steel Group (ISG). Coatesville is an affluent, rural community situated approximately 30 km north-west of Auckland, New Zealand. Albany lies to the east, Paremoremo to the south, Riverhead to the south-west, and Dairy Flat to the north. The area was called Fernielea until 1926, when it was renamed after Gordon Coates, the Prime Minister at the time. Mincher is a garden of national significance in Coatesville.
