Coal Township is a township in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population at the 2020 Census was 10,088, which was a decline from the figure of 10,383 tabulated in 2010. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of , of which is land and (0.15%) is water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 10,628 people, 3,732 households, and 2,369 families residing in the township. The population density was 401.2 people per square mile (154.9/km2). There were 4,233 housing units at an average density of 159.8/sq mi (61.7/km2). The racial makeup of the township was 89.44% White, 9.02% African American, 0.07% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.61% from other races, and 0.59% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.10% of the population.
