Coachwhip (comics)
The Serpent Society is an organization of snake-themed supervillains appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The society is a continuation of the original group the Serpent Squad and was later changed into Serpent Solutions. The Serpent Society first appeared in ''Captain America'' #310 (October 1985) and was created by writer Mark Gruenwald and artist Paul Neary. Serpent Solutions first appeared in '' Captain America: Sam Wilson'' #1 by writer Nick Spencer and artist Daniel Acuña. The Serpent Society was formed by Sidewinder as he gathered a number of villains with snake-themed powers. The group was organized more like a supervillain labor union, with the members providing protection for each other, sharing profits, etc. The Society took jobs for criminal organizations such as HYDRA, the Maggia, the Kingpin, and A.I.M. Viper (Madame Hydra)
Viper (real name Ophelia Sarkissian, formerly known as Madame Hydra) is a supervillain appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. She is a foe of the Avengers and the X-Men. Viper was featured in the 2013 film '' The Wolverine'', played by Russian actress Svetlana Khodchenkova. A variation of the character was portrayed by Mallory Jansen in the fourth season of the Marvel Cinematic Universe television series ''Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.''. Publication history Viper was created by Jim Steranko and first appeared in '' Captain America'' #110 (February 1969). Fictional character biography Ophelia Sarkissian was orphaned as a child in Hungary. Part of her face was scarred at one time, although it has since been healed. David Anthony Kraft (May 31, 1952 – May 19, 2021) was an American comic book writer, publisher, and critic. He was primarily known for his long-running journal of interviews and criticism, ''Comics Interview'', as well as for work for Marvel Comics in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Writing career Before his comics career, Kraft worked as a rock and roll journalist. In September 1976, he became editor of ''FOOM'' with issue #15, Marvel's self-produced fan magazine, lasting as editor until the magazine's final issue (#22) in 1978. Known for his offbeat approach, Kraft first made a name for himself as a comic book author with his work on Marvel Comics' '' The Defenders'', particularly the 1977 "Scorpio Saga" story-arc (issues #46, 48–50). In ''The Defenders'', Kraft wrestled with large philosophical issues: the temptations of power, the Cold War and nuclear power, sibling rivalry, and growing old alone.
