''Clues'' is the self-titled debut album by Clues, and its only album before disbanding in 2010. It was released on May 19, 2009 on Constellation Records., after having leaked onto the internet on April 5, 2009. The track "Cave Mouth" quotes the melody to Jeff Buckley's "New Year's Prayer." Clues (band)
Clues was an indie rock band from Montreal, Canada formed by Alden Penner and Brendan Reed in 2007. The band's only album '' Clues'' was released on May 19, 2009, by Constellation Records. The band have been on indefinite hiatus since 2010. History Clues was founded by Alden Penner (vocals, guitar, keys) and Brendan Reed (drums), both active for years in the Montreal music industry. Penner was a founding member of The Unicorns and Reed has been in a number of groups, most notably Arcade Fire. The duo had previously collaborated on a split 7-inch single "Surface to Air Missive / I Love What U Did", released in 2006 on Penner's label Take This Hammer. Penner and Reed were joined by keyboardist Bethany Or (Shanghai Triad) for their official debut performance at Pop Montreal 2007. The group also contributed music to ''The Visible Will vs. The Invisible Wall'', a short film directed by Brett Story as part of the festival's Making Music program. ''Pitchfork'' (formerly ''Pitchfork Media'') is an American online music publication (currently owned by Condé Nast) that was launched in 1995 by writer Ryan Schreiber as an independent music blog. Schreiber started Pitchfork while working at a record store in suburban Minneapolis, and the website earned a reputation for its extensive coverage of indie rock music. It has since expanded and covers all kinds of music, including pop. Pitchfork was sold to Condé Nast in 2015, although Schreiber remained its editor-in-chief until he left the website in 2019. Brendan Reed is an American multi-instrumentalist, composer, artist, and film-maker from Williamsburg, Virginia known for his short films, recordings, compositions, and performances with numerous bands from Montreal, Quebec and Williamsburg, Virginia. Career Uneducate Evil released three EPs (featuring six songs each). Each of these EP's were officially untitled but were informally listed and referenced according to the date they were recorded: ''6/11/97'', ''7/3/97'', and ''9/16/97''. All three EPs were compiled onto CD by Villa Villa Nola in 2000 in a release called ''Secret Trail''. Alden Penner
Alden Penner (born 12 January 1983) is a Canadian musician and producer best known for his work with the Unicorns, Clues, and for his solo output. Career The Unicorns (2000–05) In December 2000 Penner formed the Unicorns with Nicholas Thorburn in Campbell River, British Columbia. The duo's first release was a limited edition CD entitled '' Unicorns Are People Too'' on their own label, Caterpillars of the Community. This was shortly followed by their début LP '' Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone?'', released by Alien 8 in North America and Rough Trade in the UK. The Hotel2Tango (sometimes referred to as Thee Mighty Hotel2Tango and abbreviated H2T) is a 24-track analogue recording studio situated in the Mile End district of Montreal, Quebec. The current facility is the second to bear the name, and was preceded by a similar operation in the same neighborhood until 2007 when the studio changed locations. Efrim Menuck
Efrim Manuel Menuck (; born November 4, 1970) is a Canadian musician involved with a number of Montreal-based bands, most notably Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra. Menuck is also a frequent record producer and engineer, working with musicians from Montreal and abroad. Biography Menuck was born in Montreal but grew up primarily in Toronto. He moved back to Montreal when he was in his early 20s. His father was a doctor and his mother was a nurse. He attended Hebrew day school from first to ninth grade. After dropping out of high school in 11th grade, Menuck was homeless and jobless and had a nervous breakdown at age 20. Menuck has mentioned that as a teenager he once lived in a flooded basement with "two other lost kids" and "a litter of feral kittens, and that all were unfed".
