Club España was an American soccer team which won the National Challenge Cup in 1987. The team also won the 1985 National Amateur Cup. The Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation (RSSSF) is an international organization dedicated to collecting statistics about association football. The foundation aims to build an exhaustive archive of football-related information from around the world. History This enterprise, according to its founders, was created in January 1994 by three regulars of the Rec.Sport.Soccer (RSS) Usenet newsgroup: Lars Aarhus, Kent Hedlundh, and Karel Stokkermans. It was originally known as the "North European Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation", but the geographical reference was dropped as its membership from other regions grew. National Amateur Cup
The National Amateur Cup, also known as the USASA Amateur Cup, is an American soccer competition open to all amateur teams affiliated with the United States Soccer Federation through United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA). In 1923, U.S. Soccer established the National Amateur Cup in response to the growing number of teams entering the open National Challenge Cup (now known as the U.S. Open Cup). The 1923 competition was played through the semifinals, however the tournament was never completed due to inclement weather. While the USSF originally managed the competition, that responsibility is now held by the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA). Hugo Berly
Hugo Nelson Berly Silva (December 31, 1941 – December 24, 2009) was a Chilean footballer who played as a right-back. Career Berly played for Unión Española, Audax Italiano and Santiago Wanderers in the domestic championship of Chile. He also represented the Chile national team making 12 appearances. His international debut was in a 1–0 friendly victory against Argentina on 15 August 1967. He was also part of the Chile squad in the 1966 World Cup, without featuring in the tournament. History Established in 1987 as an independent team, the Diplomats, owned by Julio Pinon, drew many of their players, and head coach Hugo Berly, from Club España. The newly formed Diplomats won the inaugural and only Ambassador Cup when they tied the Honduras national football team in June. In April 1988, the team entered the newly established American Soccer League. At the time, Ian Bain had been hired as an interim head coach.
