Alma Julia Hightower
Alma Julia Hightower (November 27, 1888 - August 1, 1970) was an American vocalist, musician and music teacher. From the early 1920s to the mid-1960s she taught thousands of children and adults, many of whom became outstanding performers, such as Clarence McDonald. Biography She was born Alma Julia Webster on November 27, 1888, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and had at least four siblings, three brothers and a sister. She moved to Los Angeles, California, in the 1920s, first living with her nephew Alton Redd. She later moved to a rented house at 1553½ East 33rd Street in Los Angeles for a number of years and began her illustrious career as a musician, composer, band leader and music teacher mostly at her Hightower Music Studio and Conservatory in Los Angeles, California, on Vernon Avenue between Mettler Street and Towne Avenue.

Rosetta Jeanette Hightower (23 June 1944 – 2 August 2014) was an American singer and the lead singer of the 1960s girl group The Orlons. She was born in Philadelphia. As lead singer of The Orlons, the Orlons recorded several Top 10 U.S. hits between 1962 and 1964, including "The Wah-Watusi", "Don't Hang Up (song), Don't Hang Up", "South Street (song), South Street", and "Not Me". In early 1962, The Orlons provided backup vocals on Dee Dee Sharp's "Mashed Potato Time" (#2 pop, No. 1 R&B). That spring, they recorded "The Wah-Watusi" which, in July 1962, made it in the Billboard charts to the No. 2 spot. Monteria Hightower (born 1929) is an American librarian. She was formerly the Administrator of the State Library and Archives for Nevada, the first Black state librarian in Nevada, and the fifth Black state librarian in the United States. She was the State Librarian of Missouri from 1986 through 1994 where she was the first Black state librarian. Hightower worked as State Librarian of Missouri beginning in 1986. During that time oversight of the library shifted from the department of education to the Secretary of State's office. Loren (Tex) Hightower (December 2, 1927 – November 7, 2017) was an American dancer who split his performing career between ballet and musical theatre. He was no relation to ballerina Rosella Hightower. Originally from Belton, Texas, Hightower trained with Ted Shawn. Keith Paul Hightower (born January 14, 1957) is an American businessman who was from 1998 to 2006 the Democratic mayor of Shreveport, Louisiana. Hightower graduated in 1975 from Captain Shreve High School; one of his classmates was later State Senator Greg Barro, a Shreveport lawyer.
