Cloughduv GAA
Cloughduv GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association based in the village of Cloughduv in County Cork, Ireland. The club is a member of the Muskerry division of Cork GAA. The club fields hurling team only. There are two Gaelic football clubs in the parish (Kilmurry parish) - Canovee and Kilmurry - and there is often an overlap of players between the different clubs. History Hurling in the area pre-dates the founding of the Gaelic Athletic Association in Thurles in 1884; when the Cork County Board was inaugurated in 1886, 21 clubs attended including Ryecourt GAA represented by Michael J Keane. Shortly thereafter the name was changed to Cloch Dubh. Success was not long in arriving, culminating in 1912 in a great victory in the County Senior Beamish Shield. In the late 1920s Cloughduv joined up with BrideValley to form Éire Óg and this led to victory in the Cork Senior Hurling Championship Final of 1928. The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. Ballinhassig GAA
Ballinhassig is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the village of Ballinhassig in County Cork, Republic of Ireland. The club was founded in 1886, and now plays Hurling at Premier Intermediate level, having won the Cork Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship in 2005, and the Cork Junior Hurling Championship in 2002. Stemming from these County Championship wins, Ballinhassig competed in Munster and All-Ireland Club Championships, and have won the following Club Championship Finals: Junior Munster Club Final, Junior All-Ireland Junior Club Hurling Championship Final, Intermediate Munster Club Final; but lost out to Dicksboro, of Kilkenny town, in the All-Ireland Intermediate Club Hurling Championship Final, played in Croke Park. Joanne O'Callaghan
Joanne O'Callaghan born 1983 in Cork is a camogie player and pharmacy representative, winner of All Ireland medals in 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008 , 2009 and 2014. She captained Cork to the All-Ireland title in 2006 and is in her 13th season on the Senior team. She also has Minor and Intermediate All-Ireland championship medals to her credit as well as Ashbourne Cup and Gael Linn honours. Briege Corkery (born 16 December 1986) in Cork is a camogie player, ladies' Gaelic footballer, and winner of seven All Ireland Senior Camogie medals in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2014, 2015 and 2018 as well as the winner of eleven All Ireland Senior Ladies' Football medals in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. She has won six Camogie All Stars Awards in 2006, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2014 and 2015. John Grainger (Hurler)
John Grainger (1830, Belfast – 1891) was an Irish cleric and antiquarian. Grainger was educated at Belfast Academy and Trinity College, Dublin. After gaining a Doctorate of Divinity he became Rector of Broughshane, County Antrim. He was an indiscriminating collector, who filled his house with a mass of often unlabelled specimens including stuffed birds, shells, insects, coins, minerals, a dolmen, weapons from New Zealand, and archaeological finds. Noel Dunne
Noel Dunne (born 1948) is an Irish former hurler and Gaelic footballer. He played with club sides Cloughduv and Canovee, divisional side Muskerry and at inter-county level with Cork. Career Dunne first played hurling with the Cloughduv minor team that won three successive divisional titles in the mid-1960s. He soon progressed to adult level and won a Cork JFC title with sister club Canovee in 1968. Dunne was a member of the Cloughduv junior team and added a Cork JHC title to his collection in 1970. He was also a member of the Muskerry divisional teams as a dual player that year and, after losing the SHC final, won a Cork SFC medal after a defeat of Nemo Rangers. Kevin Murray (hurler)
Kevin Murray (born 1972) is an Irish former hurler and who played as a left wing-forward at senior level for the Cork county team. Born in Kilmichael, County Cork, Murray first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Cork minor team, before later joining the under-21 and junior sides. He made his senior debut during the 1994 championship. Murray went on to play a key part for Cork for almost a decade, and won one All-Ireland medals and two Munster medals. As a member of the Munster inter-provincial team, Murray won one Railway Cup medal. At club level he played with Cloughduv and St. Finbarr's. John Barry-Murphy
John Barry-Murphy (7 January 1892 – 6 January 1975) was an Irish sportsperson. He played hurling at various times with his local clubs Cloughduv and Éire Óg and was a member of the Cork senior inter-county team in the 1910s and 1920s. Playing career Club Barry-Murphy began his hurling career as a member of his local Cloughduv team. Cloughduv and the Bride Valley Club merged in 1928 to form the Éire Óg club. That year Barry-Murphy won his sole senior county championship winners' medal. Inter-county Barry-Murphy first came to prominence on the inter-county scene as a member of the Cork junior hurling team in 1916. Dinny Barry-Murphy
Dinny Barry-Murphy (17 July 1903 – 21 August 1973) was an Irish hurler who played as a centre-back for the Cork senior team. Born in Cloughduv, County Cork, Barry-Murphy first played competitive hurling during his schooling at St Finbarr's College, Farranferris. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty when he first linked up with the Cork junior team before later joining the senior side. He made his senior debut during the 1926 championship. Barry-Murphy immediately became a regular member of the starting fifteen, and won four All-Ireland medals, five Munster medals and two National Hurling League medals. Mid Cork Junior A Hurling Championship
The Mid Cork Junior A Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the MKJ Oils Junior A Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Muskerry Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1926 for junior hurling teams in the Muskerry region in County Cork, Ireland. The series of games begin in May, with the championship culminating with the final in September. The championship includes a knock-out stage and a "back door" for teams defeated in the first round. The Mid Cork Junior Championship is an integral part of the wider Cork Junior Hurling Championship. The winners and runners-up of the Mid Cork championship join their counterparts from the other six divisions to contest the county championship.
