Clinton Warrington Stanley (December 5, 1830 – December 1, 1884) was a justice of the New Hampshire Supreme Court from 1876 to 1884. Born at Hopkinton, New Hampshire, Stanley graduated from Dartmouth College in 1849 and was admitted to the bar in 1862, forming a partnership with his old preceptor, George W. Morris of Manchester, in whose office he was a law student. The firm of Morris & Stanley had a large practice. In 1865, Stanley was chosen as president of the City National Bank and held that position for fourteen years. New Hampshire Supreme Court
The New Hampshire Supreme Court is the supreme court of the U. S. state of New Hampshire and sole appellate court of the state. The Supreme Court is seated in the state capital, Concord. The Court is composed of a Chief Justice and four Associate Justices appointed by the Governor and Executive Council to serve during "good behavior" until retirement or the age of seventy. The senior member of the Court is able to specially assign lower-court judges, as well as retired justices, to fill vacancies on the Court. The Supreme Court is the administrative authority over the state's judicial system. The Court has both mandatory and discretionary appellate jurisdiction. In 2000, the Court created a "Three Judges Expedited" or 3JX panel to issue decisions in cases of less precedential value, with its decision only binding on the present case. Hopkinton is a town in Merrimack County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 5,914 at the 2020 census. Ira Allen Eastman (January 1, 1809 – March 21, 1881) was an American manufacturer and Democratic politician in the U.S. state of New Hampshire. He served as a member of the United States House of Representatives and as a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives in the 1800s. Early life Eastman was born in Gilmanton, New Hampshire, the son of Stephen and Hannah Eastman. He attended the local schools and Gilmanton Academy before graduating from Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, in 1829. He read law and was admitted to the bar in 1832. He began practicing law in Troy, New Hampshire. Political career Eastman returned to Gilmanton in 1834 and continued the practice of law.
