Clinton Hennessy
Clinton Hennessy (born 28 July 1977) is an Irish hurler who played as a goalkeeper for the Waterford senior team. Hennessy joined the team when he replaced Stephen Brenner as first-choice 'keeper in 2005 and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement in 2012. During that time he won two Munster winners' medals and one National League winners' medal. He ended up as an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. At club level Hennessy plays with Ardmore. Playing career Club Hennessy plays both hurling and Gaelic football with Ardmore. Inter-county Hennessy made his debut for the Waterford senior team during the 2005 National Hurling when he started against Kilkenny. During the subsequent championship campaign he displaced Stephen Brenner as Waterford's first-choice goalkeeper. Ardmore GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the West Waterford town of Ardmore, Ireland. The club plays both hurling and gaelic football. It is generally thought to focus more on Gaelic football, having won 2 Senior Football Championships in 1965 and 1977. Dual Players
Dual player or dual star is a term used in Hiberno-English to describe someone who competes in multiple sports — for example, in Victorian Ireland, cricket and hurling. The term today in Gaelic games typically describes a male player who plays both Gaelic football and hurling or, if a female player, a player of ladies' Gaelic football and camogie. The player does not necessarily have to play at the same standard in both sports. Ó HAonghusa
Ó hAonghusa is the surname of at least two distinct Gaelic-Irish families. It is now anglicised as Hennessy and Hennessey. One Ó hAonghusa family were located at Cill Bheagáin, in the Kingdom of Uí Failghe, in the Irish midlands. Another family surnamed Ó hAonghusa were found at Ros Ailithir, in the Kingdom of Desmond. It is from this family that the founder of Hennessy brandy, Richard Hennessy of Killavulen, by Mallow, and Cognac (1720–1800), descended. Dan Shanahan
Daniel Shanahan (born 4 January 1977) is an Irish former hurler. He has been a selector with the Waterford county team since 2013. Born in Lismore, County Waterford, Shanahan was introduced to hurling by his father, a former hurler with Waterford. He was a Harty Cup runner-up with Lismore CBS while simultaneously enjoying championship successes at senior level with the Lismore club. Shanahan made his debut on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Waterford minor team. A two-time Munster runner-up in this grade, he later lined out with the under-21 team. Shanahan joined the senior team in 1995. He went on to play a key role for Waterford in attack during a hugely successful era, and won four Munster medals and one National Hurling League medal. Justin McCarthy (hurler)
Justin J. McCarthy (born 1945 in Passage West, County Cork) is an Irish former hurling manager and former player, who took over as manager of the Limerick senior inter-county team in October 2008. He played hurling with his local club Passage and with the Cork senior inter-county team in the 1960s and 1970s. As a player McCarthy was involved with the Cork team of the late 1960s. In a senior inter-county career that lasted from 1964 until 1974 he won one All-Ireland title, three Munster titles, two National Hurling League titles and two Railway Cup titles. Over the last four decades McCarthy has had some success as a manager with many different teams. In the 1970s he coached Antrim to an All-Ireland title at intermediate level before capturing back-to-back National Hurling League titles with Clare.
