Clifford Mackay McEwen CB, Military Cross, MC, Distinguished Flying Cross (United Kingdom), DFC & Bar (2 July 1896 – 6 August 1967) was a flying ace, fighter ace in the British Royal Flying Corps during World War I and a senior commander in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. His Second World War service culminated in his commanding No. 6 Group RCAF in England from 28 February 1944 to 13 July 1945. During his command the performance of the RCAF was greatly improved, becoming the most successful Allied bombing force in several ways. Air vice-marshal (AVM) is a two-star air officer rank which originated in and continues to be used by the Royal Air Force. The rank is also used by the air forces of many countries which have historical British influence and it is sometimes used as the English translation of an equivalent rank in countries which have a non-English air force-specific rank structure. Air vice-marshal is a two-star rank and has a NATO ranking code of OF-7. It is equivalent to a rear-admiral in the Royal Navy or a major-general in the British Army or the Royal Marines. In other NATO forces, such as the United States Armed Forces and the Canadian Armed Forces, the equivalent two-star rank is major general. The rank of air vice-marshal is immediately senior to the rank air commodore and immediately subordinate to the rank of air marshal. George Brookes (RCAF Officer)
Harry George "George" Brookes (8 December 1934 – 14 April 2011) was a long-serving politician in Tasmania, Australia, firstly by being elected onto the now defunct St Leonards Council, and in latter years to the Tasmanian Legislative Council (25 May 1991 – 31 May 1997). Biography Brookes was educated at Invermay Primary School & Launceston Technical College. He spent 27 years in the newspaper industry as a machine compositor with the ''Launceston Examiner'', and spent 2 years in Victoria with the '' Colac Herald'' and the '' Melbourne Sun''. He was nominated for Patersonia Ward on 26 March 1963, against the sitting Councillor, and trebled his vote to win the seat. Air Commodore Arthur Dwight Ross (18 March 1907 – 27 September 1981) was a Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Base Commander of No. 62 Base, No. 6 Group RCAF in Yorkshire, England during the Second World War. Ross received the George Cross for his actions on the night of 27/28 June 1944 at RAF Tholthorpe. Early life and career Arthur Dwight Ross was born 18 March 1907, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. After graduating from the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, Ontario in 1928 (student # 1815), he took a commission in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Ross received his pilot's wings at Camp Borden in February 1929. The Royal Air Force (RAF) is the United Kingdom's air and space force.
