Clifford Day Mallory Cup
The Clifford Day Mallory Cup, or Mallory Cup for short, is the competition for the United States Adult Sailing Championship. In a sport with hundreds of different classes of boats and a national champion for each, the point of the Mallory Cup is to determine an overall champion for the sport of sailing in the United States. Run by US Sailing (as opposed to any given class), eliminations are held throughout the country, and the finals are raced in a different type of boat each year to eliminate any advantage a sailor from any particular class might otherwise have. Competitors sail boats that are provided by the host club, and teams are required to race each boat at the event once so that nobody will have an advantage in terms of equipment. As with national championships in other sports, the top three finishers receive gold, silver, and bronze medals. The sport of sailing involves a variety of competitive sailing formats that are sanctioned through various sailing federations and yacht clubs. Peter Barrett (sailor)
Peter Jones Barrett (February 20, 1935 – December 17, 2000) was an American sailboat racing, sailor and Olympic champion. He competed at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, where he received a gold medal in the Star (sailboat), star class with the boat ''North Star'', together with Lowell North. He won the silver medal in the Finn (dinghy), finn class at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. He also competed in the Sailing at the 1960 Summer Olympics – Finn, Finn event at the 1960 Summer Olympics. Career Barrett competed in three Olympic Games and won two medals.
