The Cleveland Guardians are an American professional baseball team based in Cleveland. The Guardians compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) Central division. Since , they have played at Progressive Field. Since their establishment as a Major League franchise in 1901, the team has won 11 Central division titles, six American League pennants, and two World Series championships (in 1920 and 1948). Henry John Aguirre (January 31, 1931 – September 5, 1994), commonly known as Hank Aguirre, was an American professional baseball player and business entrepreneur. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a left-handed pitcher from 1955 to 1970, most prominently for the Detroit Tigers where he was a two-time All-Star player and, was the American League ERA leader in 1962. Aguirre also played for the Cleveland Indians, Los Angeles Dodgers and the Chicago Cubs. After his athletic career, he went on to become a successful businessman in Detroit, Michigan. Logan Shane Allen (born May 23, 1997) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Colorado Rockies organization. He previously played for the San Diego Padres, Cleveland Indians/Guardians and the Baltimore Orioles. Early life Allen was born in Palm Beach, Florida, and raised in Fletcher, North Carolina. John Thomas Allen (September 30, 1904 – March 29, 1959) was an American pitcher in Major League Baseball (MLB), who played for the New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians, St. Louis Browns, Brooklyn Dodgers, and New York Giants. Early life Born in Lenoir, North Carolina, Allen spent part of his youth in the Baptist orphanage in Thomasville, North Carolina, and he attended Thomasville High School. Baseball career Allen reached the Yankees in an unusual way. While working as a bellhop in a hotel, he was told to take some fans to the room of Yankee scout Paul Krichell. Allen told Krichell that he was a pitcher, and the scout arranged a tryout. Allen was an immediate success for the Yankees, debuting in with a 17–4 record and a 3.70 earned run average (ERA) for the world champions. Greg Lomack Allen (born March 15, 1993) is an American professional baseball outfielder in the Boston Red Sox organization. He made his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut with the Cleveland Indians in 2017 and has also played for the San Diego Padres, New York Yankees, and Pittsburgh Pirates. John Chad Allen (born February 6, 1975) is an American former professional baseball left fielder. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Minnesota Twins, Cleveland Indians, Florida Marlins and Texas Rangers. Career Born in Dallas, Texas, his father was Jackie Allen, a cornerback in the National Football League. He attended Duncanville High School and played college baseball for Texas A&M University from 1994 to 1996. He was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the fourth round of the 1996 Major League Baseball Draft. Robert Gray Allen (October 23, 1937 – December 12, 2023) was an American Major League Baseball pitcher. He batted and threw left-handed. He pitched for part or all of five seasons in Major League Baseball, all with the Cleveland Indians. Major League Baseball career Allen was signed by the Indians as an amateur free agent in 1956. He had an impressive 1960 season with Cleveland's Mobile minor league affiliate with a 16–11 won-loss record. Allen made his major league debut on April 14, 1961, with the Cleveland Indians at age 23. On that day, Allen pitched to three hitters, all of whom he retired. Despite a record of 3–2 and 3.75 earned run average in 81 innings pitched, 1962 saw Allen's record slip to 1–1 with an earned run average of 5.87 in 30 innings. Andrew Neal Allanson (born December 22, 1961) is a former professional baseball catcher who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for eight seasons, from 1986 to 1995. Andy was signed as a second-round pick in the 1983 amateur draft, by the Cleveland Indians and scout Bobby Malkmus. Amateur career Allanson attended the University of Richmond. Gary Wayne Alexander (born March 27, 1953) is an American former professional baseball player. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a catcher from 1975 through 1981 for the San Francisco Giants, Oakland Athletics, Cleveland Indians, and Pittsburgh Pirates. Alexander was traded along with Gary Thomasson, Dave Heaverlo, John Henry Johnson, Phil Huffman, Alan Wirth and $300,000 from the Giants to the Athletics for Vida Blue on March 15, 1978. Mario Guerrero was sent to the Athletics just over three weeks later on April 7 to complete the transaction. Robert Somerville Alexander (August 7, 1922 – April 7, 1993) was a Canadian professional baseball pitcher. He attended Bethany College (West Virginia), Bethany College in West Virginia. Alexander was signed by the New York Yankees in . However, he did not make his Major League debut until 1955 with the Baltimore Orioles.
