Bradley County Greenway
The Cleveland/Bradley County Greenway is a -long public greenway walking path in Cleveland, Tennessee maintained by the local Greenway Advisory Board. The path is the longest path in the Greenway Network, a network of public walking trails located in Bradley County, Tennessee. Description The Cleveland/Bradley County Greenway weaves through the northern part of Cleveland from Willow Street to Mohawk Drive. The path follows South Mouse Creek its entire length and crosses the waterway in four locations. Approximately two-thirds of the greenway is concrete and the remainder is asphalt. It has a total of nine access points. The trail begins at a gated intersection with Willow Street, travelling north through a wooded residential area. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). The ''Cleveland Daily Banner'' is a three day weekly newspaper published in Cleveland, Tennessee. Founded in 1854, it is the longest-running newspaper in Bradley County, and one of the oldest newspapers in the state. The newspaper was founded as the ''Cleveland Banner'', a Democratic newspaper by editor Robert McNelley (pronounced "McAnnelley"), and published its first edition on May 1, 1854. McNelley, who was a supporter of the Confederacy during the Civil War, was arrested by Federal troops in the fall of 1863, and the newspaper ceased publication. Benjamin Cleveland (May 28, 1738 – October 1806) was an American pioneer and officer in the North Carolina militia. He is best remembered for his service as a colonel in the Wilkes County Regiment of the North Carolina militia during the War of Independence, and in particular for his role in the American victory at the Battle of Kings Mountain . Charleston is a city in Bradley County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 664 at the 2020 census. It is included in the Cleveland Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The land now occupied by Charleston and Bradley County was home to the Cherokee long before European settlers arrived. Hiwassee River
The Hiwassee River has its headwaters on the north slope of Rocky Mountain in Towns County in the northern area of the State of Georgia. It flows northward into North Carolina before turning westward into Tennessee, flowing into the Tennessee River a few miles west of what is now State Route 58 in Meigs County, Tennessee. The river is about long. Hydrography The river is dammed by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in four locations, all in Western North Carolina: Chatuge Dam, Mission Dam (not owned by TVA), Hiwassee Dam, and Apalachia Dam.
