Glasgow Pub Bombings
The Glasgow pub bombings were two bomb attacks in Glasgow, Scotland, carried out by the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF) on 17 February 1979. The UVF bombed two pubs frequented by Catholicsthe Old Barnsin Calton and, 15 minutes later, the Clelland Bar in Gorbals. Five people were injured, all at the Clelland Bar. The pubs were targeted because they were allegedly used for fundraising for Irish republicans in Northern Ireland. The attack sparked fears that sectarian terrorism would erupt in Scotland as a spillover of the Troubles. Experts believe a Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) veto on bombing operations in Scotland prevented the situation from escalating. The attacks were co-ordinated by William "Big Bill" Campbell, the UVF's top commander in Scotland, who was possibly involved with the 1971 McGurk's Bar bombing in Belfast which killed 15 people according to a book published in 2012. A police investigation led to Campbell, along with eight other UVF members (which included ...

Lady Maisry
Lady Maisry (also known as "Bonnie Susie Cleland") is Child ballad 65, existing in many variants. Synopsis The heroine—Maisry, Janet, Margery, Marjory, Susie—becomes pregnant (sometimes after rejecting many Scottish lords). She declares that she will not surrender her (often English) true love. Her family goes to burn her. A page boy goes to fetch the true love, but he arrives too late. Many variants end with his vows of revenge on all her family, and often on all the lands about. In some, he adds that he will remember the page boy, sometimes resolving to become a pilgrim after his revenge. In some, he dies of grief, or goes mad. Motifs The woman sentenced to death for unchastity is a common motif in romance (heroic literature), romances and ballads. The description of the page boy's journey is similar to a passage in Matty Groves. Performers * Kathy and Carol cover the song on their self-titled debut album of 1965. * Lady Maisery perform a version of the song on their album ...
