The Clean Air Express provides commuter bus service in portions of Santa Barbara County, California, with service between the cities of Santa Barbara, California, Santa Barbara, Lompoc, California, Lompoc, Santa Maria, California, Santa Maria, and Goleta, California. In 1991, the service was formed to provide commuter service and to alleviate traffic congestion. The Clean Air Express is funded by Santa Barbara County Measure A funds. The Trailways Transportation System is an American network of approximately 70 independent bus companies that have entered into a brand licensing agreement. The company is headquartered in Fairfax, Virginia. Lompoc ( ; Chumash: ''Lum Poc'') is a city in Santa Barbara County, California. Located on the Central Coast, Lompoc has a population of 43,834 as of July 2021. Lompoc has been inhabited for thousands of years by the Chumash people, who called the area Lum Poc, meaning "stagnant waters" or "lagoon" in the local Purisimeño language. The Spanish called the area Lompoco after Fermín de Lasuén had established Mission La Purísima in 1787. In 1837, the Mexican government sold the area as the Rancho Lompoc land grant.
