Ettore Scola
Ettore Scola (; 10 May 1931 – 19 January 2016) was an Italian screenwriter and film director. He received a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film in 1978 for his film '' A Special Day'' and over the course of his film career was nominated for five Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. Life and career Scola was born in Trevico, Avellino, Campania. From age 15, he became a ghostwriter. He entered the film industry as a screenwriter in 1953, and collaborated with director Dino Risi and fellow writer Ruggero Maccari on the screenplay for Risi's feature, ''Il Sorpasso'' (1962). He directed his first film, ''Let's Talk About Women'', in 1964. In 1974 Scola enjoyed international success with '' We All Loved Each Other So Much'' (''C'eravamo tanto amati''), a wide fresco of post-World War II Italian life and politics, dedicated to fellow director Vittorio De Sica. ''Scent of a Woman'' ( it, Profumo di donna) is a 1974 Commedia all'italiana film directed by Dino Risi, based on ''Il buio e il miele'', a story by Giovanni Arpino. Both Risi and the leading actor Vittorio Gassman won important Italian and French awards. An American remake, '' Scent of a Woman'', was released in 1992. Plot A blind Italian Captain (Fausto Consolo), accompanied by his aide Ciccio (Giovanni Bertazzi), who has been assigned to him by the army, is on his way from Turin to Naples to meet with an old comrade who was also disfigured in the same military incident. Unknown to his aide, the Captain means to fulfill a suicide pact there with his old comrade. While they journey, the Captain asks Ciccio to help him spot beautiful women. Unsatisfied with the boy's descriptions, he uses his nose instead, claiming that he can smell a beautiful woman. ''We All Loved Each Other So Much'' ( it, C'eravamo tanto amati) is a 1974 Italian comedy-drama film directed by Ettore Scola and written by Scola and the famous screenwriter duo of Age & Scarpelli. It stars Stefania Sandrelli, Vittorio Gassman, Nino Manfredi, Stefano Satta Flores and Aldo Fabrizi, among others. Widely considered one of the best movies by Scola, and a great example of commedia all'italiana, it was dedicated to famous Italian director Vittorio De Sica. Plot Gianni, Antonio and Nicola were resistance fighters (La Resistenza) during the war, sharing everything like brothers. After the war, they returned to their lives. ''Crime Busters'' ( it, I due superpiedi quasi piatti) is a 1977 Italian action crime comedy film directed by Enzo Barboni and starring the comedy team of Terence Hill and Bud Spencer. It was one of the three movies awarded with the Golden Screen Award in 1977 along with ''The Exorcist'' and ''The Towering Inferno''. Plot Wilbur Walsh (Bud Spencer) and Matt Kirby (Terence Hill) are in Miami, looking for work as longshoremen, but the area is managed by shady dealers who refuse to give them a job, after which the dealers are beaten up and have three of their cars wrecked in the process.
