Claude F. Morris
Claude F. Morris (January 10, 1869 – September 28, 1957) was a justice of the Montana Supreme Court from 1935 to 1946. Born in Ralls County, Missouri, Morris received his Bachelor of Laws degree from Columbian University (later George Washington University) in 1902. He moved to Montana and was admitted to the practice of law in 1903. From 1903 to 1906, he was associated with the Union Bank and Trust Company as secretary and trust officer. He was prominent in Montana banking circles for many year, particularly at Havre, Montana, where he was the president of the Security State Bank. Morris served on the Havre City Council from 1912 to 1916; from 1914 to 1916 served in the Montana House of Representatives; and from 1916 to 1920 in the Montana State Senate. The Montana Supreme Court is the supreme court, highest court of the state court system in the U.S. state of Montana. It is established and its powers defined by Article VII of the 1972 Montana Constitution. It is primarily an appellate court which reviews civil and criminal decisions of Montana's trial courts of general jurisdiction and certain specialized legislative courts, only having original jurisdiction in a limited number of actions. Ralls County is a county located in the northeastern portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 10,355. Its county seat is New London. The county was organized November 16, 1820 and named for Daniel Ralls, Missouri state legislator. Ralls County is part of the Hannibal, MO Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Quincy-Hannibal, IL-MO Combined Statistical Area. History Ralls County was one of several along the Mississippi River settled in the early years primarily by European-American migrants from the Upper South, especially Kentucky and Tennessee. Havre ( ) is the county seat and largest city in Hill County, Montana, United States. Havre is nicknamed the crown jewel of the Hi-Line. It is said to be named after the city of Le Havre in France. As of the 2020 census the population was 9,362. History Havre was incorporated in north-central Montana on 5 September 1893. In August 1893, twenty-six people voted to incorporate Havre as a city on September 5 of that year. Lee Metcalf
Lee Warren Metcalf (January 28, 1911 – January 12, 1978) was an American lawyer, judge, and politician. A member of the Democratic Party, he served as a U.S. Representative (1953–1961) and a U.S. Senator (1961–1978) from Montana. He was the first of Montana's U.S. Senators to be born in the state, and was Permanent Acting President ''pro tempore'' of the Senate, the only one to hold that position, from 1963 until his death in 1978. Early life and education Metcalf was born in Stevensville, Montana, to Harold E. and Rhoda (née Smith) Metcalf. His father was the cashier of the First State Bank of Stevensville. He was raised on his family's farm.
