Claude Ambroise Régnier
Claude Ambroise Régnier (6 April 1746 – 24 June 1814), Duke of Massa (''Duc de Massa''), was a French lawyer and politician. He was a deputy in 1789, a member of the Council of Ancients, a member of the Senate and a Minister. Early years Claude Ambroise Régnier was born in Blâmont, now in Meurthe-et-Moselle, on 6 April 1746. At that time Blâmont was in the Principality of Salm-Salm. His paternal grandfather was Jean-Antoine Régnier, ''procureur'' of the ''bailliage'' of Saint-Diey-des-Vosges. His maternal grandfather was Jean-Baptiste Thiry, king's counsel in the Blâmont town hall. His parents were Ambroise Régnier and Françoise Thiry. In 1748 his father was an innkeeper. In 1780 he is described as an old ''fermier des domaines'' (tax collector), and in 1784 as a merchant. Claude Régnier's mother died in 1785, aged 65. Robert Lefèvre
Robert Jacques François Faust Lefèvre (, 24 September 1755, in Bayeux – 3 October 1830, in Paris) was a French painter of portraits, history paintings and religious paintings. He was heavily influenced by Jacques-Louis David and his style is reminiscent of the antique. Life Robert Lefèvre made his first drawings on the papers of a procureur to whom his father had apprenticed him. With his parents' consent, he abandoned this apprenticeship and walked from Caen to Paris to become a student of Jean-Baptiste Regnault (in whose studio he met and became friends with Charles Paul Landon). At the 1791 Paris Salon he exhibited his ''Dame en velours noir'', the point of departure for his reputation. In 1805, Lefèvre painted the portrait of Empress Joséphine, and in 1807 a matching portrait of Napoléon was painted by Louis-André-Gabriel Bouchet. Estates General (France)
In France under the Ancien Régime, the Estates General (french: États généraux ) or States-General was a legislative and consultative assembly of the different classes (or estates) of French subjects. It had a separate assembly for each of the three estates (clergy, nobility and commoners), which were called and dismissed by the king. It had no true power in its own right as, unlike the English Parliament, it was not required to approve royal taxation or legislation. It served as an advisory body to the king, primarily by presenting petitions from the various estates and consulting on fiscal policy. The Estates General first met in 1302 and 1303 in relation to King Philip IV's conflict with the papacy. They met intermittently until 1614 and only once afterward, in 1789, but were not definitively dissolved until after the French Revolution. This article lists Presidents of the French Parliament or, as the case may be, of its lower chamber. The National Constituent Assembly was created in 1789 out of the Estates-General. It, and the revolutionary legislative assemblies that followed – the Legislative Assembly (1791–1792) and the National Convention (1792–1795), had a quickly rotating Presidency.
