''Classic Carpenters'' is the fourth studio album by Australian recording artist Dami Im, released on 22 April 2016 by Sony Music Australia. The album consists of cover versions of American vocal duo The Carpenters' songs. The album was certified Gold is Australia (more than 35000 units sales) in April 2017. Im said "My intention wasn't to copy Karen's voice or her tone, our voices naturally sound so different. I tried to bring out the joy and the innocence in the songs while trying to sing them as honest and raw as I could as Dami, rather than pretending to be someone else." Adding, "With this album and through my live performances, I hope to be remembered as the girl who is a real musician at heart who speaks truthfully through her craft." Dami Im
Dami Im ( , , ; born October 17, 1988) is a South Korean-born Australian singer and songwriter. She represented Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 held in Stockholm, Sweden with the song " Sound of Silence", placing second and achieving the highest Eurovision Song Contest score for Australia. Im emigrated to Australia from South Korea with her family at the age of nine. She won the fifth season of ''The X Factor Australia'' and subsequently received a recording contract with Sony Music Australia. In 2020 she left Sony Music and signed with ABC Music. After winning ''The X Factor'', Im released her debut and winner's single "Alive", which debuted at number one on the ARIA Singles Chart. "This Masquerade" is a song written by American singer and musician Leon Russell. "Hurting Each Other" is a song popularized by the Carpenters in 1972. It was written in 1965 by Gary Geld and Peter Udell, and has been recorded many times by artists ranging from Ruby & the Romantics to Rosemary Clooney. Previous versions The original version of the song was recorded by Jimmy Clanton and released in 1965 as a single on Mala Records. According to Richard Carpenter, this version of "Hurting Each Other" had a very different feel from the Carpenters' product. However, there are definite similarities in the vocal refrain.
