''Class Reunion'' (original title: ''Der Abituriententag'') is a novel by Franz Werfel first published in German in 1928. Plot summary The novel is about 43-year-old Dr. Ernst Sebastian, a lawyer who works as an ''Untersuchungsrichter'' ( investigating judge) in the fictional town of Sankt Nikolaus during 1927. One Saturday afternoon a middle-aged man called Franz Adler, who has been arrested for the murder of a prostitute, is brought before him. During the interview—a preliminary hearing during which the two men are alone in Sebastian's office—Sebastian recognizes Adler as his old classmate, who attended the secondary school in Sankt Nikolaus, which was then in Austria-Hungary, for two years when they were both 16 and 17. Adler, however, who appears to him fearful and beaten by life, does not seem to recognize the judge, and Sebastian decides to postpone any private talk with Adler till the following Monday. ''Class Reunion'' is a popular television show broadcast in Ireland on RTÉ One. Overview Roughly based on the British programme, '' This Is Your Life'', the show is hosted by Gay Byrne and was broadcast on Sunday nights in early 2005. Rona Jaffe
Rona Jaffe (June 12, 1931 – December 30, 2005) was an American novelist who published numerous works from 1958 to 2003. During the 1960s, she also wrote cultural pieces for ''Cosmopolitan''. Biography Jaffe was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1931, the only child of Samuel Jaffe, an elementary-school principal, and his first wife, Diana (née Ginsberg). Her grandfather was a construction magnate who built the Carlyle Hotel. Growing up in affluent circumstances on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, she graduated from Radcliffe College in 1951. Jaffe wrote her first book, '' The Best of Everything'' (1958), while working as an associate editor at Fawcett Publications in the 1950s. It was quickly adapted into a film starring Joan Crawford, also called '' The Best of Everything'' (1959). The book has been described as distinctly "pre-women's liberation" in the way it depicts women in the working world. ''Class Reunion'' is a 1982 American black comedy film produced by '' National Lampoon'' as the third film from the magazine.
