Clarrie Fahy
Clarence Wilfred 'Clarrie' Fahy (1898–1963) was an Australian rugby league administrator in the pioneer days of the St. George District Rugby league Football Club and later with the NSWRFL. Administrative career and war service Clarrie Fahy was born in Sydney on 23 March 1898 and he went on to become St. George's third Hon. Secretary, a hard and effective worker, that held a great feeling for the club. His involvement in Australian rugby league pre-dated St. George. He played with the Banksia Waratahs before World War One, he then served in the great War and linked with Saints in 1922. Fahy became the Third Grade Secretary in 1926, then took over from Reg Fusedale as Club Secretary in 1938. He stayed as Club Secretary until 1944 then he was elected a Vice-president of the NSWRFL in the same year during his service in World War Two. Banksia, New South Wales
Banksia is a suburb in southern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Banksia is located 12 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district, in the Local government in Australia, local government area of the Bayside Council and is part of the St George, New South Wales, St George area. History Banksia is named for Joseph Banks, a botanist on the Voyage of Discovery of James Cook which visited the nearby Botany Bay in 1770. The suburb was part of land owned by Simeon Pearce (1821–86) and his brother James Pearce in the 1850s, which extended from Rockdale to Brighton-Le-Sands. Until the late nineteenth century, the area was heavily timbered but residential development began in the 1880s. One of the leading developers was Frederick Jamison Gibbes, a Member of Parliament, after whom Gibbes Street in the suburb is named. Reg Fusedale
Reginald Douglas Fusedale (1890-1990) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1910s and 1920s. He was also a successful sports administrator. Sporting career Born Douglas Reginald Fusedale to Harry and Marion Fusedale in Sydney in December 1890, Reg Fusedale's rugby league career started at South Sydney Rabbitohs, South Sydney, where he played two seasons in 1919–1920. He then moved to the St. George District and played two seasons at St. George Dragons, St. George between 1921 and 1922, and played in the club's first ever game on 23 April 1921 . He was also a noted cricketer and played against the legendary Victor Trumper, scoring a century in same match that Trumper did at Chatswood Oval in 1913. The Australian Rugby League Commission (ARL), formerly the Australian Rugby Football League known as the Australian Rugby League is an Australian rugby league football competition operator. It was founded in 1986 as the Australian Rugby Football League Limited and succeeded the Australian Rugby Football League Board of Control which had been formed in 1924. Since its inception, the ARL has administered the Australian national team and represented Australia in international rugby league matters. The Australian National Rugby League Team, the Kangaroos, have represented Australia in senior men's rugby league football competition since the establishment of the 'Northern Union game' in Australia in 1908. NSWRL
The New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) is the governing body of rugby league in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory and is a member of the Australian Rugby League Commission. It was formed in Sydney on 8 August 1907 and was known as the New South Wales Rugby Football League (NSWRFL) until 1984. From 1908 to 1994, the NSWRL ran Sydney's, then New South Wales', and eventually Australia's top-level rugby league club competition from their headquarters (or "Bunker" as it was nicknamed during the Super League war) on Phillip Street, Sydney. Bill Buckley (rugby League)
William George Buckley (8 August 1906 – 17 April 1973) was an Australian rugby league footballer and administrator. Playing career A front rower, Buckley played 75 lower grade matches for Newtown. He broke his leg in the 1928 NSWRFL season and his first grade career was over. Administrative career After playing, Buckley joined the New South Wales Rugby Football League General Committee as delegate of Newtown in 1940. When NSWRFL president Jersey Flegg died in 1960, Buckley replaced him and also became Chairman of the Australian Rugby League, a position he remained in from 1960 until his death in 1973.
