The Clark County Department of Aviation is a part of the government of the Clark County Commission. Harry Reid International Airport, the main commercial airport and the four general aviation facilities in the Clark County Airport System are owned by the Clark County Commission and operated under the policy direction of the Board of County Commissioners, the authority of the County Manager and the management of the Director and Deputy Director of Aviation. The Clark County Commission is the governmental organization that governs and runs Clark County, Nevada, providing services to the unincorporated areas. Its offices are located at the Clark County Government Center in Downtown Las Vegas. The commission is considered by many to be the most powerful governmental body in the state of Nevada. North Las Vegas, Nevada
North Las Vegas is a suburban city in Clark County, Nevada, United States, in the Las Vegas Valley. Relief Airport
A relief airport or reliever airport is an airport that is built or designated to provide relief or additional capacity to an area when the primary commercial airport, commercial airport(s) requires additional capacity, on a long-term or temporary basis. Reliever airports may also relieve the need for capacity by relocating non-jet general aviation activity from a commercial airport to a different facility. By removing aircraft with lower capacities and slower speeds, the commercial service airport is able to operate more flights with larger aircraft and handle more passengers increasing the efficiency with minimal additional cost in facilities. This also spreads out the aircraft over a wider area generally improving air traffic in the entire community. Ivanpah Valley Airport
Ivanpah Valley Airport is a planned government relief airport for Harry Reid International Airport in the Las Vegas Valley, to be located in the Ivanpah Valley of the Mojave Desert, within Clark County, Nevada. Since there is only limited space left for expansion at Harry Reid, due to being located adjacent to the Las Vegas Strip, a new airport is the only alternative to increase capacity by a significant amount. The project has been on hold since June 2010. The planned location for the airport is approximately 5 miles southwest of Jean Airport. It is not known whether the Jean Airport will have to be closed if the new airport is opened. However, this would be likely due to the runways lining up and the interference between the small general aviation aircraft and commercial jets. Overton, Nevada
Overton is a community that is part of the unincorporated town of Moapa Valley in Clark County, Nevada. Overton is on the north end of Lake Mead. It is home to Perkins Field airport and Echo Bay Airport. History Overton was originally settled in 1869 by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, led by Helaman Pratt. A regular branch was organized there in 1883. In the 1880s, Overton was the location of the only store in the lower Moapa Valley and attracted people from neighboring localities who arrived in Overton to buy supplies. In the 1930s, the town of St. Thomas was submerged by water as Lake Mead was being filled, and the majority of its population relocated to Overton.
