Clarendon High School for Girls is a public English medium high school for girls situated in the suburb of Selborne of East London in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. It was founded in 1903 as East London Girls' High School, The brother school is Selborne College, It is one of the oldest school for girls in South Africa. History In 1872, Panmure Public School, a co-educational school, was founded by the German immigrant, Heinrich Muller. The boys' section became Selborne College in 1907, whereas the girls' section moved to Park Avenue in 1886 before becoming a separate school for girls from grades 1 to 10 in 1903. It was originally between Muir Street and Oxford Street, on the site currently occupied by Grens Primary but having then just been vacated by an Uitlander Refugee camp. Clarendon, Texas
Clarendon is a city in Donley County, Texas, United States. Its population was 2,026 at the 2010 census. The county seat of Donley County, Clarendon is located on U.S. Highway 287 in the Texas Panhandle, east of Amarillo. History Clarendon, established in 1878, was one of the three original Panhandle settlements, the other two being Mobeetie and Tascosa. Clarendon was relocated after its original location was bypassed by the Fort Worth and Denver Railway. The town founder was a Methodist clergyman, L.H. Carhart, who envisioned a "sobriety settlement" in contrast to typical boomtowns of that era. Clarendon acquired the sobriquet "Saints Roost" from local cowboys, hence the unusual name of the Clarendon museum, the Saints' Roost Museum. Clarendon School
The Clarendon School is a historic school building located in the Virginia Square neighborhood of Arlington County, Virginia. The structure was built in 1910 based on a design by noted Virginia architect Charles M. Robinson. The school was renamed to the Maury School in 1925 to honor Matthew Fontaine Maury (1806-1873), a geographer, and oceanographer known as the “Pathfinder of the Seas.” Born on January 14, 1806, in Fredericksburg, Virginia, Maury joined the United States Navy in 1821 and was promoted to lieutenant in 1836. He served as superintendent of the Navy Department's Depot of Charts and Instruments (the United States Naval Observatory) from 1842 to 1855 and from 1858 to 1861. When the American Civil War started in 1861, Maury resigned from the United States Navy to accept a commission as a commander in the Confederate States Navy, and later became Secretary of the Navy for the Confederacy. The Clarendon Academy (formerly The Clarendon College, The Clarendon School and Nelson Haden School) is a mixed secondary school and sixth form located in Trowbridge in the English county of Wiltshire. History Nelson Haden Senior Boys' Secondary Modern School and Nelson Haden County Girls' Secondary Modern opened on the site that is now the Clarendon Academy on 16 September 1940. In August 1974 both sets of school buildings became Clarendon School, when Wiltshire County Council implemented the comprehensive education system in Trowbridge. In 2005 the school became the Clarendon College, a specialist Language College.
