Clarence Scott
Clarence Scott (born April 9, 1949) is an American former professional football player who was a safety for 13 seasons with the Cleveland Browns in the National Football League (NFL) from 1971 to 1983. He played college football for the Kansas State Wildcats. High school career Scott was raised in Decatur, Georgia and attended the former African-American school Trinity High School in Decatur. As a junior in 1965, Scott helped Trinity to a state title. College career Scott played college football at Kansas State University, where he was named an All-American following the 1970 season. Cornerback
A cornerback (CB) is a member of the defensive backfield or secondary in gridiron football. Cornerbacks cover receivers most of the time, but also blitz and defend against such offensive running plays as sweeps and reverses. They create turnovers through hard tackles, interceptions, and deflecting forward passes. Other members of the defensive backfield include strong and free safeties. The cornerback position requires speed, agility, strength, and the ability to make rapid sharp turns. The 1971 National Football League draft was held January 28–29, 1971, at the Belmont Plaza Hotel in New York City, New York. The Boston Patriots, who did not officially change their name to New England Patriots until after the draft, used the first overall pick of the draft to select quarterback Jim Plunkett. It was the first draft where the three first selections, Plunkett, Archie Manning, and Dan Pastorini, were quarterbacks. All-America
The All-America designation is an annual honor bestowed upon an amateur sports person from the United States who is considered to be one of the best amateurs in their sport. Individuals receiving this distinction are typically added to an All-America team for their sport. Some sports will have multiple All-America teams and will list the honorees as members of a first team, second team, or third team. As such, All-America teams are composed of outstanding US amateur players. Individuals falling short of qualifying for the honor may receive All-America honorable mention. The designation is typically used at the collegiate level although, beginning in 1957, high school- athletes in football began being honored with All-America status, which then carried-over to other sports like basketball and cross-country running.
