Clarence Penn
Clarence Lacquese Penn (born March 2, 1968) is an American jazz drummer and composer. He started studying at the University of Miami in Florida in 1986, but transferred to Virginia Commonwealth University. Later life and career At Virginia Commonwealth, he studied with Ellis Marsalis, and played in the pianist's trio from 1987 to 1991, including for a tour of Japan in 1990. Penn graduated in classical percussion in 1991. He was part of vocalist Betty Carter's trio from around 1990 to 1993. Stephen Scott (jazz Pianist)
Stephen Scott (born March 13, 1969) is an American jazz pianist. Scott played piano from the age of five. While attending New York’s High School of Performing Arts, High School of the Performing Arts he was introduced to jazz by alto saxophonist Justin Robinson (musician), Justin Robinson, in particular the music of Wynton Kelly and Red Garland. Later, he took private lessons at the Juilliard School, Juilliard School of Music. In 1986 he received the Young Talent Award from the International Association for Jazz Education, National Association of Jazz Educators and within the year was hired as accompanist to Betty Carter. Cyrus Chestnut (born January 17, 1963) is an American jazz pianist, composer and producer. In 2006, Josh Tyrangiel, music critic for ''Time'', wrote: "What makes Chestnut the best jazz pianist of his generation is a willingness to abandon notes and play space." Early life Cyrus Chestnut was born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1963, the son of McDonald (a retired post-office employee and church pianist) and Flossie (a city social services worker and church choir director). Chestnut began learning the piano at the age of seven, and in his boyhood played at Mount Calvary Baptist Church. By the age of nine, he was studying classical music at the Peabody Institute. Bob Berg
Robert Berg (April 7, 1951 – December 5, 2002) was an American jazz saxophonist. Biography Berg was born in Brooklyn, New York, United States. Berg started his musical education at the age of six when he began studying classical piano. He began playing the saxophone at the age of thirteen. He studied at the High School of Performing Arts and Juilliard before leaving school to tour. Berg was influenced by the late 1964–67 period of John Coltrane's music. A student from the hard bop school, Berg played from 1973 to 1976 with Horace Silver and, from 1977 to 1983, with Cedar Walton. Berg became more widely known when he joined Miles Davis band in 1984. After leaving Davis's band in 1987, Berg released a series of solo albums and also performed and recorded frequently in a group co-led with guitarist Mike Stern.
