Clarence Hyde Cooke
Clarence Hyde Cooke (April 17, 1876 – August 23, 1944) was a politician and businessman in Honolulu. Life Clarence Cooke was born April 17, 1876 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was the second son of Charles Montague Cooke and Anna Rice Cooke, and grandson of New England Congregational missionaries to Hawaii Amos Starr Cooke and William Harrison Rice, and thus partial heir to the fortune of Castle & Cooke. He was educated at Punahou School and Yale University. In 1909, he succeeded his father as president of the Bank of Hawaii, then became chairman of the board in 1937. He also served as president of two banks on Maui, First National Bank of Wailuku and Lahaina National Bank (which later merged to become the Bank of Maui). He held high positions on the boards of many other large corporations in the Territory of Hawaii, including Hawaiian Electric Company, Hawaiian Trust Company, Molokai Ranch, and several big sugarcane plantations. Alan Cooke Kay (born July 5, 1932) is a Senior United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of Hawaii. Education and career Born on July 5, 1932, in Honolulu, Hawaii, Kay attended Princeton University, where he received an Artium Baccalaureus degree in 1957 and the UC Berkeley School of Law where he received a Bachelor of Laws in 1960. He served as a United States Marine Corps Corporal from 1953 to 1955. He was in private practice in Honolulu from 1960 to 1986, and was director of the Legal Aid Society in Honolulu from 1968 to 1971. Hawaii House Of Representatives
The Hawaii House of Representatives is the lower house of the Hawaii State Legislature. Pursuant to Article III, Section 3 of the Constitution of Hawaii, amended during the 1978 constitutional convention, the House of Representatives consists of 51 members representing an equal number of districts across the islands. It is led by the Speaker of the House elected from the membership of the House, with majority and minority leaders elected from their party's respective caucuses. The current Speaker of the House is Scott Saiki. Legislators are elected to two-year terms and are not subject to term limits. As in many state legislatures in the United States, the Hawaii House of Representatives is a part-time body and legislators often have active careers outside government.
