Clarence H. McNeil
Major General Clarence Henry McNeil (July 4, 1873 – September 13, 1947) was a U.S. Army general. Early life Clarence Henry McNeil was born in Oxford, New York on July 4, 1873, the son of Millard D. and Mary (Flagg) McNeil. He was raised and educated in Oxford, and graduated from Oxford Academy. He then began attendance at the United States Military Academy, from which he graduated in 1896 ranked eleventh of seventy-three. Military career McNeil was commissioned in the artillery stationed at Fort Slocum, New York, and was transferred to Key West Barracks, Florida, to Fort Hamilton and Fort Wadsworth, New York, back to Florida, to Washington Barracks, Washington, D.C., and to Fort Hancock, New Jersey. McNeil was an instructor of mathematics at West Point from August 21, 1899, to January 6, 1903. He served for two years as adjutant of the Field Artillery School at Fort Riley, Kansas. Fort Hancock, New Jersey
Fort Hancock is a former United States Army fort at Sandy Hook in Middletown Township New Jersey. The coastal artillery base defended the Atlantic coast and the entrance to New York Harbor, with its first gun batteries operational in 1896. The fort served from then until 1950 as part of the Harbor Defenses of New York and predecessor organizations. Between 1874 and 1919, the adjacent US Army Sandy Hook Proving Ground was operated in conjunction with Fort Hancock. It is now part of Fort Hancock Memorial Park. It was preceded by the Fort at Sandy Hook, built 1857–1867 and demolished beginning in 1885. United States Army War College
The United States Army War College (USAWC) is a U.S. Army educational institution in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, on the 500-acre (2 km2) campus of the historic Carlisle Barracks. It provides graduate-level instruction to senior military officers and civilians to prepare them for senior leadership assignments and responsibilities. Each year, a number of Army colonels and lieutenant colonels are considered by a board for admission. Approximately 800 students attend at any one time, half in a two-year-long distance learning program, and the other half in an on-campus, full-time resident program lasting ten months.
