Gaelic Athletic Association
The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. The association also promotes Irish music and dance, as well as the Irish language. Scariff GAA
Scariff is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Scariff, Clare, Ireland. History There is very little recorded of the first few years of Scariff Hurling Club, but it has almost certainly always been a senior club. In 1907, Scariff played in its first Clare Senior Hurling Championship county final, beating O'Callaghan Mills. It won further senior championships in 1917, 1946, 1952 and 1953 and lost the final in 1918, 1919, 1942, 1943, 1960, 1991 and 1995. Ger O'Loughlin
Ger 'Sparrow' O'Loughlin (born 5 September 1967 in Clarecastle, County Clare, Ireland) is an Irish former hurling Manager (Gaelic games), manager and former player. An effective forward, O'Loughlin enjoyed a successful playing career at club level with Clarecastle GAA, Clarecastle and at inter-county level with Clare. He was a key member of the latter team during the 'golden age' of the 1990s and collected two All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, All-Ireland titles and three Munster Senior Hurling Championship, Munster titles in the space of four years. After a successful spell as manager of his native club Clarecastle, O'Loughlin took charge of the Adare GAA, Adare club in Limerick. During his term the club captured three Limerick Senior Hurling Championship, club championship titles in-a-row. Alan Neville
Alan Neville (born 1969) is an Irish former hurler who played as a left corner-forward for the Clare senior hurling team. Neville made his first appearance for the team during the 1992 championship and became a regular member of the starting fifteen over the next few seasons. During that time he won one All-Ireland medal on the field of play and one Munster medal as a non-playing substitute. At club level Neville is a Munster medalist with Clarecstle. In addition to this he also won four county club championship medals. In retirement from plays Neville as become involved in team management as a selector with Cratloe. Playing career Club Neville played his club hurling with his local team in Clarecastle and enjoyed much success during a golden age for the club. Mick Murphy (Thurles Sarsfields Hurler)
Michael Murphy (1918 – 1 January 2018) was an Irish hurler whose league and championship career with the Tipperary and Clare lasted from 1943 until 1949. Born in Kilmaley, County Clare, Murphy first played competitive hurling in his youth. He first appeared on the Kilmaley team in the mid-1930s before winning a county intermediate championship medal in 1938. Murphy's prowess lead to him being selected for the Clarecastle senior team at a time when the club was allowed to select players from neighbouring areas. As a member of the Clarecastle team he ended up on the losing side in three senior championship finals between 1936 and 1939. A move to Thurles in 1940 saw Murphy join the Thurles Sarsfields team and go on to win three successive county senior championship medals between 1944 and 1946. Tom Howard (hurler)
Tom Howard (born 1962) is an Irish former hurler who played as a right wing-back for the Clare senior team. Howard began his inter-county career as a member of the Clare minor and under-21 teams. He made his debut with the senior team in the Oireachtas Tournament in 1983 and was a regular player on the inter-county scene for a number of seasons. During that time he enjoyed little success. At club level Howard is a Munster medalist with Clarecastle. In addition to this he has also won five county club championship winners' medals. Bobby Duggan
Bobby Duggan (born 1995) is an Irish hurler who plays as a centre-forward for the Clare senior team. Born in Clarecastle, County Clare, Duggan was introduced to hurling in his youth. He first came to prominence playing in the Harty Cup with St. Flannan's College while simultaneously joining the minor and under-21 teams with the Clarecastle club. Duggan subsequently joined the club's senior team. Duggan made his debut on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he first linked up with the Clare minor team before later enjoying All-Ireland success with the under-21 team. Haulie Daly
Michael "Haulie" Daly (1922 – June 1991) was an Irish hurler who played as a forward for the Clare senior team. Born in Clarecastle, County Clare, Daly first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-three when he first linked up with the Clare senior team. He made his debut during the 1944 championship. Daly later became a regular member of the starting fifteen, and won one National Hurling League medal. As a member of the Munster inter-provincial team on a number of occasions, Daly won two Railway Cup medals. At club level he was a three-time championship medallist with Clarecastle. His brothers, John and Pat Joe Daly (father of Anthony), both played for Clare, while his nephew, Anthony Daly, was a two-time All-Ireland-winning captain with Clare. Jonathan Clancy
Jonathan Clancy (born 12 March 1986) is an Irish hurler; he played in a variety of positions, but mostly at midfield for the Clare senior team. Born in Clarecastle, County Clare, Clancy first played competitive hurling whilst at school at St. Flannan's College. He first played in the inter-county leagues at the age of seventeen when he joined the Clare minor team, before later joining the under-21 side. He made his senior debut in the 2005 championship. Clancy went on to play for Clare for almost a decade, and won one All-Ireland medal as a non-playing substitute and one Waterford Crystal Cup medal. As a member of the Munster inter-provincial team at various times, Clancy won one Railway Cup medal as a non-playing substitute in 2007. John Callinan
John Callinan (born 1955) is a former Irish sportsperson. He played hurling with the Clare senior inter-county teamhttp://www.sligoweekender.ie/news/story/?trs=cwqlojqlkf from 1973 until 1987. Early life John Callinan was born in Clarecastle, County Clare in 1955 into a family of one brother and four sisters. Ladies' Gaelic Football
Ladies' Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach na mBan) is a women's team sport. It is the women's equivalent of Gaelic football. Ladies' football is organised by the Ladies' Gaelic Football Association. Two teams of 15 players kick or hand-pass a round ball towards goals at each end of a grass pitch, since May 2022 women Gaelic footballers have to wear shin pads. The sport is mainly played in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, where the two main competitions are the All-Ireland Senior Ladies' Football Championship and the Ladies' National Football League. Both competitions feature teams representing the traditional Gaelic games counties. The 2017 All-Ireland Senior Ladies' Football Championship Final was the best attended women's sports final of 2017.
