Clara Isabella Harris (née Perry, October 13, 1887 – 1975) was a Canadian artist. She worked in the media of painting, watercolours, sculpture, sketching, and wood carving. Education She studied at Ontario College of Art & Design and at its Summer School, with J.W. Beatty. George Agnew Reid, C.M. Manly, and William Cruikshank (painter) and at the Art Institute of Chicago. Biography Clara Isabella Perry was born in King City, County of York, Ontario on October 13, 1887, to Richard S. Perry and Elizabeth Hunter. She studied at the Ontario College of Art with J.W. Beatty and Archibald Barnes. King City is an unincorporated Canadian community in the township of King, Ontario, located north of Toronto. It is the largest community in King township, with 2,730 dwellings and a population of 8,396 as of the 2021 Canadian census. Kathleen Morris
Kathleen "Kay" Moir Morris (December 2, 1893 – December 20, 1986) was a Canadians, Canadian painter and member of the Beaver Hall Group. Biography The fourth child and only daughter of Montague John Morris and Eliza Howard Bell, she was born in Montreal, Quebec and was educated there, going on to study for ten years (1907–1917) at the Art Association of Montreal with William Brymner. She also spent two summers under Maurice Cullen (artist), Maurice Cullen at his outdoor sketching classes. Her father died in 1914, the same year she began to exhibit with the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts and the Art Association of Montreal. In the early 1920s she joined the Beaver Hall Group and in 1921 she began to show with the Ontario Society of Artists. In 1922 Morris went to live with her mother in Ottawa, Ontario. RiverBrink Art Museum is located on the Niagara Parkway in the historic village of Queenston, Niagara-on-the-Lake. Open to the public since 1983, the museum is home to a unique collection of over 1,400 works by Canadian and international artists. Women's Art Association Of Canada
The Women's Art Association of Canada (WAAC) is an organization founded in 1887 to promote and support women artists and craftswomen in Canada, including artists in the visual media, performance artists and writers. At one time it had almost 1,000 members. Although smaller today, it still plays an active role in fundraising and providing scholarships for young artists. Inception In 1886 the young Canadian artist Mary Dignam (1857–1938) returned from six years in Europe, where she had supported herself by organizing art tours for young ladies in Italy and the Netherlands. She joined the staff of Miss E.K. Westmacott's Associated Artists' School of Art and Design, founded in Toronto in 1884, which taught handicrafts to women. Montgomery's Inn
Montgomery's Inn is a museum in Etobicoke, Toronto, Ontario. Built in 1830 as a Georgian-style inn, it was named for its innkeeper, Thomas Montgomery (1790-1877). The inn ceased operations in 1856 and continued as a private farm house that was rented to tenant farmers by the Montgomery family until 1946. It was later owned by a Presbyterian church, a developer, the Etobicoke Historical Society, and the Etobicoke Historical Board, until it was finally transferred to the City of Toronto. Once in danger of demolition, it is a cherished remnant of colonial times in Upper Canada. Though most of its current artifacts are not original to the building, they are period pieces, and a few belonged to the Montgomery family. Lambton House
Lambton House is a historic former inn in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is the last remaining building from the former village of Lambton Mills along the Humber River. The inn was established in 1847, with its present building erected in 1860. History The original structure was built in 1847, Lambton House was part of the Lambton Mills complex which also included a large grist mill, a saw mill, a woolen mill, stables, a general store and a post office. The brick work was designed, we believe, by architect William Tyrrell, father of cartographer Joseph Tyrrell. The building, and most of the surrounding land, was owned by William Pearce Howland, Ontario's second Lieutenant Governor and a Father of Confederation. Homer Watson
Homer Ransford Watson (January 14, 1855 – May 30, 1936) was a Canadian landscape painter. He has been characterized as the painter who first painted Canada as Canada, rather than as a pastiche of European painting. He was a member and president (1918–1922) of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, as well as a founding member and first president (1907–1911) of the Canadian Art Club. Arthur Lismer
Arthur Lismer, LL. D. (27 June 1885 – 23 March 1969) was an English-Canadian painter, member of the Group of Seven and educator. He is known primarily as a landscape painter and for his paintings of ships in dazzle camouflage. Early life Lismer was born in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England, the son of Harriet and Edward Lismer, a draper's buyer. At age thirteen, he apprenticed at a photo-engraving company. He was awarded a scholarship, and used this time to take evening classes at the Sheffield School of Art from 1898 until 1905. In 1905, he moved to Antwerp, Belgium, where he studied art at the Academie Royale. Lismer immigrated to Canada in 1911, settled in Toronto, Ontario, and took a job with Grip Ltd.
