Clara Beyers
Clara Beyers (c.1880 – c.1950?) was an American silent film stock actress.A stock actress was an actress who was employed by the studio on a contract much like present day employee contracts. Beyers acted on stage for nine years before she began making films. She acted with stock theater companies in Omaha, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Vancouver. When she turned to film, she signed with the Balboa company. She was signed in 1913 and starred in 32 films before her retirement from film in 1922. She starred with William Garwood in films such as '' His Picture''. Silent Film
A silent film is a film with no synchronized Sound recording and reproduction, recorded sound (or more generally, no audible dialogue). Though silent films convey narrative and emotion visually, various plot elements (such as a setting or era) or key lines of dialogue may, when necessary, be conveyed by the use of intertitle, title cards. The term "silent film" is something of a misnomer, as these films were almost always accompanied by live sounds. During the silent era that existed from the mid-1890s to the late 1920s, a piano, pianist, theatre organ, theater organist—or even, in large cities, a small orchestra—would often play music to accompany the films. Plot As described in a film magazine, wealthy Dorothy Calender (Valli) withdraws a string of pearls from her uncle's keeping to assist her brother with a debt. A detective is following her about and with the aid of others almost succeeds in getting his hands on the pearls. Billy Kirkwood (Rawlinson), who thinks Dorothy is a thief but wants to save her from her folly, secures the pearls from the escaping crooks and restores them to the young woman. ''Sporting Life'' is a lost 1918 American silent drama film directed by Maurice Tourneur. It is the first film for sisters Faire Binney and Constance Binney, from the Broadway stage. Tourneur would re-film this story again in 1925. Plot As described in a film magazine, Lord Woodstock (Graves) is in financial difficulties and is counting on a fight and a race to reestablish his fortune. Repertory Theatre
A repertory theatre is a theatre in which a resident company presents works from a specified repertoire, usually in alternation or rotation. United Kingdom Annie Horniman founded the first modern repertory theatre in Manchester after withdrawing her support from the Abbey Theatre in Dublin. Horniman's Gaiety Theatre opened its first season in September of 1908. The opening of the Gaiety was followed by the Citizens' Theatre in Glasgow and the Liverpool Repertory Theatre. Previously, regional theatre relied on mostly London touring ensembles. During the time the theatre was being run by Annie Horniman, a wide variety of types of plays were produced. Horniman encouraged local writers who became known as the Manchester School of playwrights.
