Claires Court School
Claires Court School is a 2–18 all-through private day school and sixth form in Maidenhead, Berkshire, England. As one of a small number of diamond schools located in the United Kingdom, it is unique in that while its nursery and sixth form are mixed, the primary and secondary phases are single-sex. History Founded in 1960 by David and Josephine Wilding, as a day and boarding school for boys aged 6+ to 13, Claires Court grew quickly to 180 pupils by 1970. Ridgeway, originally acquired in 1964 to provide full and weekly boarding accommodation, was converted to be the junior school in 1975 when the age range at the Ray Mill Road East site was extended to 16 year-olds. By 1980 the school roll was approximately 280. Maidenhead is a market town in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead in the county of Berkshire, England, on the southwestern bank of the River Thames. It had an estimated population of 70,374 and forms part of the border with southern Buckinghamshire. The town is situated west of Charing Cross, London and east-northeast of the county town of Reading, Berkshire, Reading. Simon Dennis (rower)
Simon John Dennis MBE (born 24 August 1976) is a British rower and Olympic gold medalist. Dennis was born in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire. He started rowing at St Paul's School, London, coached by Michael Streat and his first international appearance was in 1994 in the GB eight at the World Rowing Junior Championships, winning a bronze medal. After school he attended Imperial College London, winning two Henley Royal Regatta races with them. He raced in the eight at the World Championships in 1997 and 1998, before rowing with Steve Williams in the coxless pair for the 1999 season, winning the Silver Goblets and Nickall's Challenge cup at Henley. In 2000 he returned to the men's eight which won a gold medal at the Sydney Olympics. He is now a teacher of Biology at Marlborough College in Wiltshire. The ''Maidenhead Advertiser'' is a weekly local paper which has been published in the Berkshire town of Maidenhead since 1869. It is an independent publication run by the family firm Baylis Media Ltd, and is unique in that it is owned by a charitable trust, the Louis Baylis (Maidenhead Advertiser) Charitable Trust, which contributes large donations to the community. Early history The first copy of the Maidenhead Advertiser was published on 28 July 1869. Its founder was Edwin Bushell Prosser and his first edition cost one old penny and was four-pages long. Publication day was Wednesday, which was market day in the town. Circulation was about 1,000 and Maidenhead's population was 5,000. Benjamin "Ben" Sneesby (born 26 June 1994) is a British alpine skier. Sneesby uses a sit-ski in competitions. Personal history Sneesby was born on 26 June 1994 in High Wycombe. At the age of three months he was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a childhood cancer. He underwent a course of chemotherapy and several operations, which resulted in the successful treatment of the tumour, but left him with no sensation in his left leg, and only partial feeling in his right leg. Sneesby attended school at Claires Court School in Maidenhead and John Hampden Grammar School in High Wycombe, but on achieving his A-Levels, decided to defer his degree course to focus on his skiing. Mark Ashton Richardson (born 26 July 1972, in Slough) is an English former athlete who competed mainly in the 400 metres and 4 x 400 metres relay for Great Britain and England. He won the gold medal in the 4 x 400 metres relay at the 1997 World Championships, and again in the same event at the 1998 European Championshipss. James Richard O'Shaughnessy, Baron O'Shaughnessy (born 26 March 1976) is a British Conservative politician and member of the House of Lords. Nils Mordt (born 5 December 1983 in Harare, Zimbabwe) is a retired rugby union footballer who played at centre for Saracens and England Sevens. Mordt is the nephew of South African legend, Ray Mordt. He played junior rugby at Maidenhead Rugby Football Club, and was part of the U17 National Cup winning Colts side.
