Claire Samson
Claire Samson (born April 12, 1955) is a Canadians, Canadian politician in Quebec, who was elected to the National Assembly of Quebec in the 2014 Quebec general election, 2014 election. She was elected to represent the electoral district of Iberville (Quebec provincial electoral district), Iberville as a member of the Coalition Avenir Québec. She was also the party's candidate in Iberville in the 2012 Quebec general election, 2012 election. Within weeks of being re-elected in the 2018 Quebec general election, 2018 election, Samson publicly announced that she was considering quitting politics, both for health reasons and because she felt snubbed by premier François Legault in not having been offered a cabinet position despite having been entrusted with a highly visible role as a party spokesperson during the election campaign. The National Assembly of Quebec (officially in french: link=no, Assemblée nationale du Québec) is the legislative body of the province of Quebec in Canada. François Legault
François Legault (; born May 26, 1957) is a Canadian politician serving as the 32nd premier of Quebec since 2018. A member of the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ), he has led the party since its founding in 2011. Legault sits as a member of the National Assembly (MNA) for the Lanaudière region riding of L'Assomption. Prior to entering politics, he was the co-founder of the Canadian airline Air Transat. Legault was a MNA from 1998 to 2009—serving in the governments of former premiers Lucien Bouchard and Bernard Landry—as the minister of education from 1998 to 2002 and as the minister of health from 2002 to 2003. 2018 Quebec General Election
The 2018 Quebec general election was held on October 1, 2018, to elect members to the National Assembly of Quebec. The election saw a landslide victory for the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) led by François Legault, which won 74 of 125 seats, giving the party a majority and unseating the Quebec Liberal Party. The Liberals became the Official Opposition with 31 seats. This election was the first won by the CAQ, which had previously been the third party in the legislature. It was also the first since 1966 that had been won by a party other than the Liberals or Parti Québécois.
