Civilian Clothes
''Civilian Clothes'' is a surviving 1920 American silent comedy film produced by Famous Players-Lasky and distributed by Paramount Pictures. It stars Thomas Meighan and was directed by Hugh Ford. This film is based on the 1919 Broadway play, ''Civilian Clothes'', by Thompson Buchanan. Thurston Hall played Meighan's part in the play. ''Civilian Clothes'' is preserved at the Gosfilmofond Russian Archives, Moscow. Plot As described in a film magazine, Florence Lanham (Mansfield), married in France while a Salvation Army worker to Captain Sam McGinnis (Meighan), returns to society life in America after receiving word that he was killed in battle. She keeps news of her wedding secret and permits the attentions of Billy Arkwright (Hickman), an early lover. When McGinnis suddenly appears on the scene, clothed in startlingly bold habiliments, the Lanham stubbornness asserts itself. Albert Gran (August 4, 1862 – December 16, 1932) was a Norwegian-born American stage and film actor. He is most associated with his appearance in drama and light comedy films. Biography Albert Gran was born in Bergen, Norway. He was the son of Albert Nicolai Gran (1838-1915) and Auguste Schwarting (1844-1910). He emigrated to the United States during 1914. Gran launched his screen career in 1916. He appeared as a character actor in 44 films between 1916 and 1933. He was seen as Duke Travina with Marion Davies in '' Beverly of Graustark'' (1926), as Paul Boul with Janet Gaynor in '' Seventh Heaven'' (1927), and as B. Warren Cook
Warren Cook (May 23, 1878 – May 2, 1939) was an American film actor of the silent era. Cook was born in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1901, he appeared in ''The Shaughraun'' at the Castle Square Theatre in Boston. He was part of the stock company based at Castle Square Theatre. On Broadway, Cook appeared in ''The Conspiracy'' 1912). He had minor roles and appeared in more than 60 films between 1914 and 1927. The beginning of sound films brought an end to Cook's career. When he died on May 2, 1939, he was living at an actor's home in East Islip, New York. Marie Shotwell
Marie Shotwell (March 21, 1880 – September 18, 1934) was an American actress of the stage and screen. Biography Shotwell was in motion pictures beginning in 1915 with roles in ''God's Witness'', ''The Taming of Mary'', ''Under Southern Skies'', and ''The Tale of the C''. Her film career continued until the late 1920s, including '' Sally of the Sawdust'' (1925) with W.C. Fields; her final appearances were in '' Running Wild'' (1927) and ''One Woman To Another'' (1927). She was married to a former Savannah, Georgia, police chief, William G. Austin. Shotwell divorced Austin in 1916. In 1922 Shotwell became executrix for the estate of her friend, New York City public school teacher Marie J. Pearson. Shotwell was sued by an undertaker for $245, the amount of the burial bill.
