Civic Platform (Serbia)
The Civic Platform ( sr, Грађанска платформа, Građanska platforma, GP) is a conservative-liberal political organization in Serbia. It was formed in 2017, by former members of the Enough is Enough (DJB) organization. It had two MPs from its foundation until the 2020 parliamentary election, which it boycotted. It was the founding member of the Alliance for Serbia, and is currently taking part in the United Serbia for the 2022 general election. History The Civic Platform was founded in April 2017 by assembly members Aleksandra Čabraja, Sonja Pavlović and Jovan Jovanović, all of whom had been elected in the 2016 Serbian parliamentary election on the DJB electoral list. In announcing its formation, Jovanović indicated that the Civic Platform was also supported by citizens and by thirteen councillors in central Belgrade. Jovan Jovanović (politician)
Jovan Jovanović ( sr-Cyrl, Јован Јовановић; born 10 June 1970) is a Serbian politician and diplomat. He has served in the National Assembly of Serbia since 2016, originally with the reformist It's Enough – Restart association and later with the Civic Platform. Jovanović was previously Serbia's ambassador to Indonesia and several other countries in Southeast Asia. Early life and career Jovanović is a graduate of the University of Belgrade Faculty of Political Sciences and has a master's degree in Public and International Affairs from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public and International Affairs. Sonja Pavlović
Sonja Pavlović ( sr-Cyrl, Соња Павловић; born 1957) is a politician in Serbia. She served in the National Assembly of Serbia from 2016 to 2020, originally as a member of the reformist Enough Is Enough association and later with the Civic Platform. Early life and private career Pavlović is a graduate of the University of Belgrade Faculty of Architecture (1985). She has worked on more than one hundred design projects, has owned the ARHIDUR project bureau in Belgrade since 2010, and has participated in the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts's contest for improving the city's Sava amphitheater. She lives in Belgrade. Zdravko Ponoš
Zdravko Ponoš ( sr-cyrl, Здравко Понош; born 3 November 1962) is a Serbian politician, former diplomat, and retired general who served as chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces from 2006 to 2008. Born in Golubić, a village near Knin, Ponoš later moved to Zagreb, where he spent most of his youth and obtained a degree in electronic engineering. Ponoš moved to Serbia in 1986, where he began his military career. Two years later, he obtained a job at the Department of Development and Equipment in Belgrade, where he worked until 2002. Ponoš then acquired a position at the Ministry of Defense, where he served as an advisor to multiple ministers, including future president Boris Tadić. In 2005, he was promoted to the rank of major general after having served as a colonel since 2000, and also became deputy chief of the General Army. The People's Party ( sr-cyrl, Народна странка, Narodna stranka, Narodna) is a centre-right political party in Serbia. History After his unsuccessful bid in an attempt to replace Ban Ki-Moon as UN Secretary-General in the end of 2016, Vuk Jeremić returned to Serbia, where he enjoyed relatively high approval ratings compared to other opposition politicians. He decided to run for president in 2017 presidential election, declining the option to support Saša Janković, who by then managed to gather a number of parties' support. 2022 Serbian Presidential Election
General elections were held in Serbia on 3 April 2022 to elect both the president and members of the National Assembly. Initially, parliamentary elections were scheduled to be held in 2024; however, in October 2020 president Aleksandar Vučić stated that snap parliamentary elections would be held in or before April 2022. In addition to the general elections, local elections were held simultaneously in 12 municipalities and 2 cities, including Belgrade. The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) came to power in 2012 after forming a government with the Socialist Party of Serbia. 2017 Serbian Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Serbia on 2 April 2017. Incumbent president Tomislav Nikolić was eligible to run for a second five-year term, but opted not to do so. Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić was elected president in the first round. The election was marred by accusations of voter intimidation and a near total domination of the Serbian media by Vučić and his party. Following the announcement of the results, protests were held across Serbia against Vučić's victory. Saša Janković
Saša Janković ( sr-cyr, Саша Јанковић, ; born 27 April 1970) is a Serbian lawyer, journalist, human rights activist and politician who served as the National Ombudsman of the Republic of Serbia between 2007 and 2017. He resigned his post in February 2017 in order to run at the 2017 Serbian presidential election, where he came second with 16.36% of the vote.
